Continuing from this locked thread I find the LAV rather trying to use. It seems to have very little weight for what is supposed to be a light armored vehicle. Going over a hill at speeds faster than a snails pace often results in the vehicle taking to the air, landing facing the very hill it just catapulted off of. I've even had it fly long distances when going over a ridge, often with humorous and sometimes explosive results. Comparing the LAV to it's only logical counterpart, the Humvee, it seems rediculously underweight and embarrassingly hard to keep pointed in the right direction.
I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be, there's no mention of this from any sources and no input from the devs, but I'd like to think that it's something worth bringing up as the locked thread had done. |

Gravity isn't affected by weight. You are always pulled down at the same velocity.
That is, of course, without taking into account things like lift, drag and buoyancy. |

Yeah, like that old thread, I was looking for a good term and slippery didn't seem fitting. The LAVs have no traction for a vehicle it's size and weight. It's like the tires on them are bald. Yeah, traction would have been a better term. The LAVs are presumably all-terrain so they should have more traction than what they have. |

On roads they're fine, but I'll agree that when it comes to rough terrain, how the vehicle interacts with the environment can cause the situation to end up as messy as an episode of Happy Tree Friends. |

The problem is the LAV effectively has no suspension.
Drive very slowly over a small rise, in particular one that has concrete as the edge similar to a half of a curb. The LAV will launch over a meter in the air. That is just bad design, vehicle or software. Either they expect the tires to handle everything, which they cannot, or they didn't even bother with suspension. No vehicle with a suspension will exhibit that behavior at those speeds.
I wonder if they even know how the suspension on a wheeled vehicle works? |

I suspect they based the handling of the LAVs off videos of off-roading tournaments. Problem there is those vehicles are incredibly light and thin-skinned for the very purpose of floating over mud and dirt or climbing hills. The LAV, supposedly being an armored vehicle, is not. |

The Baja500 is what I think of when anyone mentions off road. Those vehicles are actually tough as nails. They also have many vehicle types as well as different classes for each type with very different weight limitations.
Any of them can certainly drive over any curb at the slowest speed and not go flying into the air. |
