The more I've played Dust lately, the more I've been pondering what a mercenary might do during their time off. More than that, I've also wondered about the implications of being immortal and how they might affect someone who is paid to kill and die ad infinitum. Dust...doesn't really go too much into it, I think, so I decided to make a "diary" for my character and see what I could develop.
Apologies for the low amount of entries so far, I've been posting them one a day (with a skip due to a personal screwup) so far. More apologies for any inconsistencies with the EvE-verse; I'm not a capsuleer and have only recently really gotten into the lore of New Eden, so it's a bit touch and go so far. At any rate, here's the link:
Diary of a mercenary.
Constructive criticism is always appreciated, either on here or elsewhere. |

It's interesting.
I found it a little odd that as a merc your were at first confused what you are fighting for.

I love the lore and fiction of EVE I know literally all of it just took so much time to read up on it all. I wish I could feel you in on it but there is no real main story line besides how the factions came to be. I wish there was more plot to the current events in EVE but its more letting players run free in the sandbox. |

Nicely done. I was considering doing something similar with this character and write short journal entries based on how me and my IRL friends in my corp play. You've inspired me to try. |

You've inspired me to try. Good! Far better than any praise is knowing I helped to inspire someone to start creating something of their own. And thank you to the rest of you as well. I'm aware it's still pretty early, but I'm enjoying fleshing out Rinas as a character, and I hope those of you that read it will enjoy the journey as well.

Right! Sorry about the recent lack of entries, I just moved and I haven't much time to play Dust, much less write about it. Thankfully, that will resume tomorrow. |

Find an artist and a flash guy and you got yourself an awesome motion comic series. Go put it on kickstarter.com. I would personally be willing to bid on it. |

Thank you very much for the praise. I, uh..maybe if I can commit to it a bit better, I'll consider turning it into a comic or something. As those of you who've been keeping track of it can see, I've been pretty bad about keeping up the schedule for it lately, but hopefully I can get back on track now.
As for the therapist, he is indeed gay. I like to think that years and years in the future something like that won't be such a big deal. A bit of a stretch on my part, perhaps, but a gal can dream. |

I love it. Some very, very excellent writing. And having the therapist as being gay is a neat touch. Also I don't think homosexuality would be big deal. Not in the Federation anyways, probably not even in Amarr since the bible doesn't read the same way as the real world version does. Hard to guess with the Caldari, maybe or maybe not. Minmatar would may be slightly less open to it depending on how important children are seen as. |

Thank you! I believe a little bit of diversity helps keep for a more interesting story, and I'd like to add more once I put in introduce more characters. That said though, I think that it's important to make sure that each one is more than the just the difference they bring. He's not a gay guy who is Rinas' therapist, he's a therapist who just also happens to have a husband. Characterization is important, otherwise it just seems like some kind of petty throw-in to appeal to wider range of people. Incidentally, I'll be fleshing him out a bit more with the next entry I'm putting up later today. xD |

Well, I considered it, but the diary doesn't stop just because I dislike the current build. Though with that said, I still can't wait for the 14th and (hopefully) the fixes it'll bring. Then again, I said that about Uprising and look what we got, so perhaps it's best not to be too optimistic. |

Thank you. I'll admit that I've been kinda sloppy with the schedule lately, but my situation at the moment doesn't leave me as much time to write as I would like. Or play Dust, for that matter, but I'll make do. |

Woo! 25 whole entries! A number I should've hit a while ago, admittedly, but given that this is far more work than I've ever put towards a project before, I can't say I'm not a little proud. Mindful of the fact that this is a little sad, but still proud. :P |

Whew. See that post up above? That was before I got my new job. A long, annoying job that necessitates me to handle large pieces of meat and occasionally get down on my knees. Naturally, I am speaking of being a grill monkey slash dishwasher. Why do I have to get down on my knees for washing dishes? Because the filter is a hideous piece of **** that clogs every ten minutes.
But enough about my bitching. I'm here to announce that in order to make up for all the lost time I will be writing an absolute shitload of articles tomorrow, starting with one being posted not too long after I post this! |

New post up, with another halfway done that'll have to wait until after I get home from work, I'm afraid. However, the reason I'm writing this is to ask anyone who sees it for suggestions for sites or video series that might help out a newbie merc. I'll fit in any sites or videos I think can be a real help for those poor green mercs that are still chipping their teeth on the reality that is Dust after battle academy. |

Strike the earlier woo, I've got way more to be excited about this time! Nothing like being featured by CCP to know you've hit the big leagues! ...Or at least the moderately entertaining leagues. Close enough. Anyway, while I'm the one who writes it, I probably wouldn't have kept it up for this long if I didn't know there weren't people out there who wanted read it, so in a way I also have you, the readers, to thank for giving me the drive necessary to keep going. It's going to be a long road, but knowing that there are people who enjoy my work does loads to ease the weight from my back. Thank you all for your continued reading. |
