Ok, so with the respec coming I've been messing around with stuff other than tanks. Plus with trying to save up isk for PC to help the corp out. Well today I did a quick skill point investment into scout suits and laser rifles, and all I've got to say is it is way fun. Very different game play from assaults and heavies which is what I have done so far suit wise.
Anyways, what I am looking for is any tips other scout suit users might have for someone just starting on them. I find the game play of dropping drop uplinks and ninja hacking objectives to be very rewarding and would like to get better at it to really see if this is something I might really want to stick with come May 6th.
If anybody wants an idea of the fit, its just laser rifle, submachine gun, drop uplink, shield recharger, cpu upgrade, and the module that helps with stamina recharge. |

I think that it's just the laser in general that's fun. My alt is Laser Logi.
I am not going to use Laser Rifle on my main scout though, because the laser requires standing still, and that deters my scout. If you can make it work more props to you. |

I don't know if I'm making it work, have been getting some kills with it. But it seems like one of the big benefits of the scout that I have noticed is the ability to disengage very easily as long as its at medium to long range.
You might be right about it just being the Laser Rifle itself that is the real fun part. But I'm going to keep messing with it as a Laser Scout is funny to play with. |

Lasers are quality weapons but they advertize your position as if... well, as if you were literally using a spotlight to kill someone. AR is a much better choice for this type of engagement. If a Heavy or Assault witnesses his Logi friend drop, a laser will show him your direction. Bullets won't. |

You are very correct, but for its comedy effect along I have been enjoying it. But laser aside, is there any good points of properly using a scout to really assist the team in victory? |

Laser scouts are not anti laser/sniper killers though. Scouts generally rely on shields, which lasers eat up. And snipers hunt for laser users as they broadcast their exact location. Most snipers can one shot scouts without a headshot. So keep this in mind when you reskill up. Module choices might offset these negatives, but then again, might not. |

I don't even know if I'll keep using it, might try it with an assault. But just messing around with fun random things. Not much else to do really while waiting for May 6th and grinding isk. |

Already tried it. It's cool because you can aim faster with the scout, but low HP = OHKO from snipers, which are your main weakness besides CQC. Mine is a B-series +400 shields laser guy, and it's pretty effective. Can survive 2-3 sniper shots. But lately other laser players have become my new bane, along with high sharpshooter ARs. Their high damage vs shields easily deplete my high shields. Been considering tanking armor, and I believe a heavy would be very effective. |

See I find the opposite to be true. I strafe duck and jump often while lazing peoples faces. I enjoy the mobility that the scout suit gives the lazer as it allows me to relocate, melt faces, rinse and repeat. Standing still for longer than it takes to melt a scout is a bad idea so unless I have a clear line of sight on heavies or well tanked assaults I try to re-position. The biggest perk in my opinion is that strafing does not degrade accuracy. This is probably my favorite fit besides a blaster tank. |

I wouldn't use a laser with a scout. Lasers are more of a heavy/assault weapon, since scouts should rely on speed and the element of surprise- lasers undermine both of these. |

The problem with using a lazer as a scout is you will lose every 1on1 lazer fight. As a scout, another precharged lazer will melt you SO FAST.
So here you are, dancing around, melting a dude or two. Another lazer user sees this, fires at the wall in front o him to precharge, steps out and flicks his beam over you. Now, all you have is a thin layer of shields and barely any armor, so the lazer melts you before you really get a chance to respond.
Yes you CAN do well despite this, but it is relying on a bit too much luck and incompetence of the enemy as it puts you at a huge risk. A decent lazer user will melt you without you having much of a chance to respond or run no matter how "good" you are playing.
You could say the same for snipers, but its much easier to dance to avoid snipers than lazers, so the risk is mitigated. Dancing to avoid a pre-heated lazer wont work well as they just need to pass over you once or twice. |

I used to use laser scout before lasers became commonplace on the battlefield. Other laser users will kill you unless they are bad or you get the drop on them. This doesn't mean the scout is entirely bad at the role though. Positioning is important for the laser. Using the scout, I found that heavier suits couldn't catch me and I could stay out of their range, moving between positions quickly, while maintaining my optimal on them.
Since there are now so many lasers around, this doesn't work so well anymore. |
