So I think that there is supposed to be a FW blog that is coming out soon. I'm wondering what kind of questions that will get answered by it, but one of the biggest ones I think people may or may not be expecting is how it will sustain a home for persistent higher level game-play by corps or more advanced squads?
It will have to provide incentives to bring better (maybe not the best) gear and innovative strategies and provide a payout matrix that is an improvement upon pub matches.
1) If the payouts rely on basic isk payouts the risk is that people will eventually economize by reducing their asset risk by lowering the meta of what they bring, which could have a downward net effect on what people bring.
2) If they rely on salvage then we have the problem we have with pub matches now, where only like 5% of what you get in salvage is valuable. The rest, even though it has a market value, can't really be turned into something of worth for the merc, until there is a player market... And with skill changes, we don't know whether the loot table will be even less helpful.
3) FW could rely on some sort of third commodity that lets players opt in to whatever they determine to be valuable. This could be LP that lets you buy goods at another store.
The 3rd option could be really interesting because it could mean that corps will have to be united in how they then pursue FW content. If a corp is demographically split between all 4 races, then all players may not get enough of this 3rd commodity to sustain their fittings profitably. However, better coordination could mean that the value of this currency goes up, AND investment in the success of this FW alignment affects the success of the organized corp. |

I said this in another thread just a second ago, but I figured FW would just be the new pubs. So Blueberries and Protos everywhere. |

I hope it is not. I'm really not sure how you prevent this. There could be something like deposits to get in, or if there is a new sort of Loyalty Point (LP) system, then this could be really an improvement.
What we are really lacking is a sort of secondary market that gives the Salvage Commodities their value. The reason salvage matters is that AFAIK it will be what scales based of of damage done. If we cannot turn salvage into something valuable, then there is no reason for people to really refine their roles, skill specializations, and maximize their fittings.
An alternative to a secondary player market would be the ability to REDEEM the higher meta salvage that we already have, for LP, from different faction corps. We could then spend that LP for something that IS more valuable to us. In THIS way, a way to economize a suit would be to make it so that a dropsuit fitting has a little bit of gear from each faction that could be purchased with LP. |

I remember reading they are going to make Salvage drops dependant on what you played. I'm happy with Salvage as it is now. I got a stack of 330+ Damage Sniper rifles from salvage the other day.. So nom nom nom |

In fact, what would be REALLY NEAT, is if the FW contractors, would offer temporary sales to the winners/losers of a battle, as a kind of like 'optional loot table'.
So for example, if Dragonis Templars is going agains Circle of Huskarl in a Min vs Amarr FW system.
You take a contract with the Minmatar faction and win.
You get LP based on the amount of WP you get in game (the winners get more than the losers), you get a little bit of isk, but then after the stats screen you get a window that then lets you redeem or pocket your LP. The catch is that you can only spend your Circle of Huskarl LP at that time and the rates are adjusted based on how good your team does. There would be a reasonable, limited, and randomly seeded list of options to choose from. A couple of different minmatar dropsuits, a vehicle or two, some sidearms, light weapons grenades, etc and maybe some LP exchange rates to swap CoH LP for Gallente or Mordu's Legion LP or something. The table and prices would change from match to match, you'd grow your LP purse, and when you would see good prices for what you want you would buy as much as you could. |

Pub matches are kinda of like ratting in EVE. You get a chance for a really rare drop that sells great. Eventually there will be a market. Until then, you have to wait for a pub drop to be used in districts combat and maybe FW. Then there will be a chance for you to get it as salvage loot from the battle field. Kinda of odd, but its like a trickle up effect from randoms to the more hardcore users. The question of loot and isk will be a moot one when markets or at the very least, player to player trading is introduced. It will happen, but the time is Soon TM unfortunately.
So don't speculate too much about the loot system so much and trust that it will come together soon enough. CCP knows that loot is very important and will address our current system asap I am sure.
Instead, focus on what FW could bring to us in other ways.
Will there be a faction rating? If so, will it reduce costs? Give higher rewards per game via a bonus for loyalty? Will faction loot drop in FW? |

Yep all valid points. I guess i'm sort of delving into your same ideas, which can be summed up in, what kind of interactive meta-game will FW let players get involved with. If we are just 'flipping a map' that is a little significant. If we are increaseing our chances at getting better stuff or making some other kind of name, that is another thing.
Even so, if we have a player to player trading market, with the current interface that will get really tedious. Lets say that there are about 50 different things that drop right now and you can use 5 of them. That's 45 things that you will want to trade. Assuming everyone wants a set of 4-5 of those things, but may not even want to buy all of them at once that could be dozens upon dozens of trades you may have to sit in chat with and negotiate. It will be up to us to determine if its worth it to basically turn a console game into a chat room to make a few million isk in a half hour, but I see P2P trading amounting to this.
Does anyone have good experience with a console based P2P market system? |

I hope there are some FW additions to 1.3. I'm thinking that we'll probably be able to queue up teams here pretty soon. I wouldn't be surprised if they iterated on the rewards in FW soon too. I just wonder what's going on with the FW battle servers. I just don't feel like I can rely on FW to get continuous game play, especially with a squad, let alone team. Mitigating freezing and lockups is a chore for 6 let alone 12 players. |
