"A close-quarters melee weapon, the nova knife is as deadly a weapon as anything on the battlefield. Its name derives from the heated plasma edge of the blade - formed by a thermic igniter and linear gravity condenser - that, in skilled hands, can be used to carve through even the thickest dropsuit armor."
yeah umm i run prototype nova knives and was wondering why in the description it sounds like it can 1 hit kill a heavy i know this from experience being a knife scout you can get 2 hits on the heavy and then you pull out your SMG and finish him off but it say can carve through even the thickest dropsuit armor and i would consider 7/0 pretty skilled hands with knives but the problem i am presented with is not the range just the damage they honestly can't kill half assaults if your against a heavy and they see you you run like hell and even point blank doesn't really scare them much... i almost think that nova knives should do 400-800HP and also not affect shields how does that sound? knives only affecting armor scaring the crap out of proto suits i mean your gun can touch you without being thrown off by your shields why can't something metal like nova knives? this would make nova knives a much more viable weapon to use on the battlefield even though i can still chew them up as is knowing the role of nova knives is to flank and dispatch single people like a lone redberry or a sniper not to charge into battle. this is just kind of something i think needs a bit of an upgrade making people find nova knives a threat and useful weapon :) |

Please consider the fact that on May 6 there will be a ton of changes to the skill tree and some changes to the Nova Knives. In one of the sticky threads that are updated weekly by CCP Cmdr Wang in the Feedback section of the forums, it is mentioned that they are planning to make changes to the knives according to the reports that me and others have posted. They will allow sprinting with the charge held and might even buff the damage a bit.
At the very least, 0 Try Hard from Pink Fluffy Bounty Hunters has confirmed from his own experiments that the nova knives actually do double strike. Meaning if the attributes state that the damage is 170 then the total damage dealt will be 340. He conducted the experiment by scraping the surface of an enemy supply depot and looking at the data. |

Further info on the updates to the knives: Tapping R1 is going to strike twice. Holding and charging is going to strike twice for extra damage. |

okay yeah, you can sprint with nova knives right now (>_>) but an actual sprint feature being added it will make me a much happier person plus the tap charge/hit thing doesn't sound very appealing to me right now... of course i am not sure how that is going to work and i have noticed my self that there is after all a double hit damage thing but right now it is sketchy because of the hotboxes not overlaying the best with animations, but i can kill a scout with the first hit and then kill assault with both or sometimes with the last hit but they should still do more damage in my opinion... they also need a tune up on there visuals because if it is a plasma charged blade it should glow and the held charge shouldn't make any humming noise because i know that has given me away in the past that little electric hum kinda sucks if anything it should only hum not crackle. just me and my big mouth speaking out for the few and skilled nova knifers?
stay strong my slash happy friends! |

I like that. Can you post a link to the source or was it something posted on IRC? |

Personally the Nova Knives are mostly okay. The change that is needed is for the Scout Suit Head. It could use a graphic that shows the spray of lettuce coming from them as I shred yet another Knova Knifer head.
Fun, fun, fun. Got three more today.
I used to keep count but it got boring past 12/2 as Them/My Heavy as my losses are still two. You Real Nova Knife users are good, there no little doubt of that. But the percentage of Let's Try Out Novas On A Heavy leading to yet another shredding lesson is pretty high.
I have run a Scout/Shotty from time to time and I die very quickly if I come charging forward like my Heavy. I am not that good a shot with the Shotgun. AR, Snipers, SMG, HMG, Forge Guns are fine. Mass Driver is mostly okay as is the laser. But if I want to succeed with the Shotty I Have to come in from the side or behind. I suspect the same would be true with the Knives. At least, for me.
Anyway, keep up the good work. It is an interesting aspect of the game. Not one I would use but still interesting. |

well my friend have you ever been killed from behind by a shotgun/nova knives? those are the true scout users not the ones that charge into battle "hoping" to be a ninja but the truth is you have to be a backstabbing coward that runs at the slightest risk to personal injury but other than that i have taken down a few prototypes both heavy and assault and i would like to know what they are saying on the other end XD. but other than that nova knives are situational the best way to handle them is to back up and always check you '6 if you ever see an advanced-prototype nova knife kill on the kill boards because thats our favorite thing finding the "shiny's" and hunting them specifically people who show little to no perimeter checks and bad shooting we also rarely go after heavies unless they are reloading or injured so heavies shouldn't be to afraid of nova knives unless they have low sensitivity on and poor reactions |

@ARF 1049, would you mind trying out paragraphs from time to time. You don't have to get carried away but it would make reading your post a little easier.
I wasn't able to understand from the short wall of text if you got my point.
I kill Nova Knife Users. All the time. I like it. They want to kill me. Only two have succeeded. I like that number as well.
I get killed by good shot gunners way more consistently then either KR or my alt likes. But the Shot gunners that get me are normally good and so is the weapon.
The average NKU is not. Those that are good, which may or may not include you, have my respect. The others have lettuce heads and I want a better graphic tied to their use of Nova Knives. |

yeah sorry about the puncutation i have always kind of had a problem with indentation and spacing and i do realize the shotguns are a more lethal weapon then nova knives this is true but it doesn't take as much true skill to kill with a shotgun.
nova knives for me are more to get the suspense of killing people with them and i did say i normally end up hunting other scouts, snipers, and "shinys".
i normally only go after a heavy i know i can finish off and 90% of the time it is from behind when they are reloading and if i don't kill them in the first slash i pul out my 'Toxin' ICD-9 SMG to finish them off.
i know that heavies will normally win these fights but it doesn't get much better than killing heavies with knives
so Thranx1231 i know nova knifers aren't hard to kill if they charge you head on they are normally beaten to a pulp. but yah know like i said we steer clear of people we don't think we can 1 hit kill. and it takes some time learning that boundary thats why you have chewed up the militia scouts with basic nova knives normally not the advanced scouts with prototype knives.
and everyone normally thinks nova knives are a cheaper way to go with than a heavy or assault or anything else but nor really. First of all we obviously tend to die more than some other troops so that accounts for pain in restocking, i also have a dragonfly BPO so that cuts a some cost i also have the 'toxin' SMG blueprint that also helps, but overall my standard knife suits are 40,000 ISK-50,000 ISK... my nova knives are about the same cost of the MH-82 HMG |

@ARF 1049 Thanks for the clear text and the response.
During Ambush I push to get as close to a Zero Cost Suit as I can. The MH-82, luckily, is one that I receive almost often enough in salvage* not to have to buy.
Before the final character wipe I used Nova Knives when they were upgraded (Buffed). As it turns out they are low enough in CPU/PG to equip when there is not enough room for much else. I equipped them on my Heavy at one time until I squeezed enough room to put the Toxin back in. This time though I skilled into Scrambler pistols as the entry level has the same CPU/PG as the Nova Knives.
* I have yet to pay for the 9K330 Forge Gun for the same reason. Now I need to Skill to Proto Suits so I can use the ones in my inventory. Then Mercs can get grumpy at me for running Proto gear ... that I got for free. |

no joke i have so many free proto suits XD but yeah i think the only way heavies can get kills with knives on them is the person stops to laugh i did that the other day when someone in my squad had an MH-82 and knives |
