Someone shouldn't be able to jump into a vehicle if they don't have the skills necessary to drive it. This should decrease vehicle-stealing by blueberries. Also, maybe a toggled lock that is on by default, preventing anyone other than the person who called in the vehicle from entering the driver's seat. |

Why doesn't anyone like the lock system? It's there to prevent unwanted vehicle-stealing, while the skill restriction is there to prevent some guy from calling in a bunch of madrugars for his teammates who haven't put a single skill point into tanks. |

But even in EVE, to get into a ship, you need the skills to pilot it. Also, it makes little sense to have no keys on your 300k ISK dropship. |

Charizard Zakalwe wrote:So then you'd also lose the ability to hack enemy HAV's? Or drive them? what about turret skills? If you have some advanced blaster turrets, do I need L3 of Small Hybrid Turrets to shoot or get into a passenger seat? If my buddy has a tank, I can't use it unless I've got his hundreds of thousands of skill points in tank things? What if he has proto-fittings on it, am I stuck unless I have those skills? I've driven and moved tanks for a team mate before, should his gunnlogi get stuck and destroyed because I have Gallente HAV and not Caldari HAV?
this is a dumb idea Turrets wouldn't be restricted by the gunner's skill level. Maybe hacked vehicles would be an exception to this rule. How about this: For every skill level you are below the required skill level for the vehicle (only the vehicle skill itself, such as "Caldari HAV"), you incur a 10% penalty to the hacking speed for that vehicle. That lost time could be represented as being spent on quick-installing a simplified UI to the vehicle. |

Charizard Zakalwe wrote:Why wouldn't they? They're the ones operating the turrets, aren't they? Don't they need the skill to properly operate a proto-level turrets? Hacking isn't driving a vehicle, either. I have no idea why " Not skilled to fit this tank" should influence "breaking the iff bits and make it not be angry"
Maybe some sort of flat penalty to certain things if you're unskilled, but really, if you want to be only one drive, put some locks on the tank and make you punch in a keycode or something to use it. No one without the code can drive the tank, but you've gotta suffer a high or low slot to it.
This is an idea that would mostly repel players from wanting to do things, try out vehicles, or the like. I wouldn't have had the strong interest in being a tanker if I didn't have a corp mate show me the ropes and let me drive a not-sucky tank. It could be explained as this: Turret Ops makes you better at using turrets, but you don't need it to use them. The reason drivers need the skills to fit them is because it also encompasses how to maintain your turrets. |
