the pistol will give you better range and damage if you can nail a headshot. |

Honestly it depends on your shot. Good shot = Pistol. OK shot = SMG. |

Thanks. Shotgun build? I'd go with SMG. Especially if its a scout shotgun. |

I usually ditch the sidearm as a shotgun scout, personally. More room to fit stuff.
In general though, even though I prefer the SMG, I would have to say the pistol will give you more mileage if you're any good with it. |

The SMG if pistol reloads are too time consuming for your taste. I run a Shotty most of the time, pistols on my most builds - except in Heavies, to compensate for speed (and sounds scary enough to make some guys turn and run so I can shoot them in the back.) |

SMG is better when used as emergency weapon. With the faster strafe of the scout you'll be able to kill while dodging. + thr SMG eats armor faster than the pistol. If firing showed you in enemy radar (it doesn't), Nova Knives would be very useful for stealth kills. |

Shield regulators are more useful imo. I would stack them if CPU isn't a concern, which in most cases it is for scouts. |

But on a clear day, Scrambler Pistol is like Zeus Lightning while headshots be his Thunder. Stunt kills with them are very fulfilling as well.
I popped this guy mid free fall with a head shot, saw the +50. I hit the floor with this face

I've done the same, got a headshot on a scout that leaped off of delta on line harvest. SP is well worth it when you got it skileld it, it can even function as a decent primary. |

Scrambler pistols are better against players who shield tank, which is 90% of all players that are going to kill you at this point. SMGs are effective if you have no other close range alternatives (forge, laser, swarm, sniper rifle) You can usually scare a player into hiding if you break his shields, giving you enough time to reload, so scrambler pistol(as the metagame of this build stands) seems to me to be the proper choice for anyone who isn't using the weapons listed. |

If you want a weapon that covers your vulnerability when you're caught in the open, Scrambler Pistol. It's more effective at range than the SMG. If someone spots you trying to sneak around the flank, and opens fire, you can pull your Pistol and quickly drop them from well outside the range of your Shotgun. It lets you silence a lone threat to your stealth before they break your cover.
If you want a weapon that better complements your primary CQC role, SMG. If you're out of ammo on your Shotgun, you can quick-swap to the SMG and blaze away to finish off whatever's still moving. If you're using a Breach Shotgun, this is a GREAT backup, with the others it should only happen if you run into 5+ enemies at once, or 3+ Heavies and someone's still moving after the initial attack. |

I honestly like both....The SMG is better for chasing people down and spraying it at them and is easier to get headshots. The Pistol takes a little more skill to use but man if you can land some hits it does dmg. |

Scrambler pistols all day long. I've got Proto and the skill alone makes the std pistol a beast - 11 in a clip. In my experience, that's enough shots to kill 6 people, finishing the last with a melee as he turns... |

Try them both out and see what fits you best. I started using the breach scrambler pistol a few weeks ago and I fell in love with it the very first match I used it. |

Same, been going back and forth between SMG and pistol for 2 months. Even using fits with each equipped on one suite to see what was more versatile. For me the pistol wins. It hits hard, is easy to fit, has better range, allows for more running speed.... and on the somewhat less objective side of the house: it's more elegant and requires more skill.
Breach is outstanding. So is Assault if you like ripping off tons of shots quickly. Personally I just can't find my sweet spot with the Burst variant. |

I haven't yet tried the assault because I have been doing great the breach, even killing heavies 1 on 1. I would imagine using the breach might make you a better shot because it is the most accurate variant, and the slow firing and small clip force you to make every shot count. |

Awesome. And all those sidearm skills are all x1 and easier to train up than the light weapon skills. Or just go pistol on the logi or type II scout and fit some nasty prox mines, remote explosives etc., etc.... time to wreck shop.
At one point I had 4 scout fits all with different variants of the pistol in the light weapon slot, and my toxin SMG for the sidearm.

Depends on your fit.
If you're anything but a scout- take a pistol If you're a scout- you're too squishy for a short-range precision weapon, so just dance and hip fire with the SMG |

I came cause I heard there was likes.
I use the Scarmabler when I want to feel badass, or using a starter fit...
And I use the SMG most of the other time.
If you're running a shotgun then I'd recommend the pistol to make for your range deficiency. |
