Hard to believe with all those gflops that a DUST Sniper Rifle cannot deal with even a tenth of what this ancient technology from Old Earth could do. |

Dust sniper rifles do not have bullet drop. They are hit scan. They hit you instantly once fired. |

Zekain Kade wrote:distance issue, which is a completely different Topic. Well about the actual topic. We use hitscan because we lack bullet physics, not because the bullets are actually that fast. That said, I would imagine that a railgun would have very little bullet drop anyway. |

We do not lack the bullet physics. We use hit scan becausr it is easier for the servers to process.
Rail guns, mass drivers, missiles, And anything else I may have missed These weapons have bullet physics.
We even had a militia sniper that used bullet physics at one point, but it was buggy, or too hard to use, so it was removed. |

If we want to pretend that future scopes could not adjust for drop -- who wants to calculate the the drop on a railgun when the target is 600m away?
It's not going to be much. |

I did calculate it, few cm at max range. Modern marksmen rifles have more dispersion from random variables like barrel heating and ammo imperfections. Aim at center of head and hit bottom of head at max range. Minmatar projectile sniper could have modern rifle like drop.
Travel time on a moving suit is significant enough to chance a hit to a miss though, so travel time without drop for rail sniper would be nice.
The rifle in that article is crazy, but what happens when the battery dies and the guy doesn't know how to aim? |

If you want to start talking about what should be possible...
Self aiming guns that track enemy suit signatures
Threat detection systems that prioritize enemy targets for you
HUDs that continuously paint the contact area for Mass Drivers
The battlefield of the future won't have soldiers like today, they will be systems operators. Just like auto pilots have eliminated hand flying and turned airline pilots into systems managers osiers wouldn't even be pulling he trigger, much less hand aiming the weapon.
But that makes for a boring game, so we ignore all that and make up lore about rouge drones to explain why there are people involved at all. |
