i'm familiar with some of the ship differences in EVE, but do they affect gameplay or ur beginning skills?
Caldari has shields and railguns. does this mean their guns have higher accuracy?
Gallente have blasters and drones.
Amarr is Armor and Lasers.
Minmatar is speed and projectile weaponry.
Is this correct? Am I missing any? |

Caldari use range, accuracy, and electronic countermeasures (railguns, missiles, and ECM) with a preference for shield tanking. Gallente use drones, close combat, and high damage (blasters and speed boosts) with a preference for armor tanking. Amarr use accuracy, high damage, and range (lasers and lasers) with a preference for heavy armor tanking. Minmatar use speed, high rate-of-fire, and adaptability (projectile, missiles, and speed boost) with a preference for speed and shield tanking.
This is a quick and dirty overview, because most races have some variability in their ships. There are a few Gallente ships with missiles, for instance, and other races also have drone boats.
Another way of looking at it is:
Amarr- Close Range (Lasers) [Weak] / Long Range (Lasers) [Strong] Caldari - Close Range (ECM & Missiles) [Weak] / Long Range (ECM, Railgun, & Missiles) [Strong] Gallente - Close Range (Blasters) [Strong] / Long Range (Drones) [Weak] Minmatar - Close Range (Projectiles & Speed) [Moderate] / Long Range (Projectiles & Speed) [Moderate]
Why are drones weak? Because you can shoot them down unless you're attention is focused elsewhere or your enemy is using ECM that makes it hard for you to kill them. |

minmatar are sort of jack of all trades. their primary weapons are projectiles and speed but they also use drones and missiles well. they use armor and shield tanking in equal measure but shield tanking synergises most because it does not slow down speed.

so far race does not effect anything in Dust514.
This might...might change May 6th-14th with the updated skill tree and racial suits...but I doubt it. My guess is that race will not affect anything in Dust other than lore and character appearance.

Ah but race DOES affect your character.
Depending on your race, you will have a different mercenary HQ. (Personally I like Caldari, everything is centered and symmetrical.)
And it will be a deciding factor with which Militia LAV BPO you get. (Caldari get the Onikuma, while Gallente get the Baloch... I forget what Amarr and Minmatar get.)
But beyond that, nothing really other than the visual appearance of your HQ and Militia LAV BPO. |

In DUST, as in EVE, choosing a race has no effect on gameplay at all. The only effect it has in DUST is changing your personal merc quarters into the racial variant.
You can skill for whatever dropsuit you want, whatever weapon you want, whatever modules you want. It's entirely open-ended.
Although, you may not want to be Minmatar and try to RP as Amarr, or vice versa. |

Minmatar: fast, both shield and armor tanks depending upon the ship. they use stasis webifiers and target painters for electronic warfare. they use projectile weapons, which means they've got a low optimal range.
Caldari: fast, shield tanks by definition. they use missiles as their main weapon type, and hybrid turrets occasionally. their chosen form of electronic warfare is jamming. look for the rocket pistol to be a caldari weapon (i assume).
Amarr: slow, armor tanked. they use energy neutralizers and tracking disruption as their form of e-war. their chosen weapon type is the laser.
Gallente. slow (-ish), but they've got some fast ships, they use armor tanks. their weapons are largely drone based, and they use hybrid turrets. their racial e-war uses propulsion jamming and remote sensor damps. |

Yeah, CCP should add an AUR option or something to allow us to re-customize our characters. Maybe they will allow it during the respec? |

If you are a minmitar all the rust on your armor makes you slow as a kitten, but anything from that i am not sure. |

I play Caldari so I have only heard rumors about the other HQs. I heard that the Minmatar one is made out of drift wood and corrugated iron. The Gallente, like all french revolutionaries, has a grand piano and uses empty red wine bottles as candle sticks. Amarr just has the standard of theocracies, a pope hat on the table and an alterboy/slave in rags in the corner. |

As a gallente I can debunk the using empty wine bottles... we use quafe bottles.
And its more of a baby grand piano... the quarters just won't let us fit the grand piano...
But it is a very sedy shade of green and curvy. |

Such a drab setup you have there brother. I was able to get a wine cellar below mine and my quarters regularly smell of leather bound books, fresh bread and cheese.
I hear the Caldari are really good at math! |
