Although I think some people have known about this for a few weeks now I wanted to hear it for myself so I asked CCP Wolfman if the damage mods are working correctly and he confirmed them to be fine, the only problem was that the UI does not show the correct values when stacking them.
(10:15:27)Musta_Tornius>bleh gonna try a different question then [CCP]Wolfman, when you got a skill such as sharpshooter and sharpshooter proficiency, when calculating their total bonus is it the multiplicity that give the correct value or addition? (10:16:02)Mith>Hopefully the item sheet they release comes with a stat FAQ. (10:16:15)Musta_Tornius>I thought they might be special as they kind of build on one another (10:16:24)Musta_Tornius>so they'd have a base stat that is used for calculations (10:17:05)[CCP]Wolfman>yes they are (10:17:10)[CCP]Wolfman>the UI is incorrect (10:18:09)[CCP]Wolfman>it's a multiply (10:18:18)[CCP]Wolfman>not a flat range boost
So there you have it, old news maybe but at least it's out there now. |

As we've been saying for a couple of weeks. Do you not trust us?!
It would make sense for both EVE and DUST to run on the same basic mechanics, including how modifiers work, and stacking penalties.

No stacking penalty on the sharpshooter skills. This dev response cannot be mapped to the damage mods and considered correct. |

FIrst players cried because prototype suits were clearly better than other suits in terms of raw hit points. They just had more.
That was changed. Devs specifically stated that they wanted to give players a reason to use modules more.
Now prototype suits have the same shield and armor as lower tier suits, the only advantage they offer is the ability to add modules. Players added more modules to prototype suits than they could to other suits and immediately began to cry again. Perhaps they were crying about nothing more than a perceived advantage that never really existed. But they sure did cry. Because different weapons kill in different ways. And different modules do different things, and the more you can use the more you can do.
But it does look like players wont't stop crying until all the gear is exactly the same. And then they will start crying because all of the gear is the same.
Why get involved in a game that is made by a company that makes lots and lots of different kinds of gear for their players if all you are going to do is throw constant tantrums and argue non stop that all the differences between gear must be eradicated because it just isn't fair! |

What kind of crackpot logic is this? So because everybody has an iphone instead of an Android the Iphone needs a nerf? |

Your options for high slots are "do you want shields or damage buff with that today?"
I don't think it's reasonable to see a lot of people using one of the two useful options and decide that the option is excessively powerful. |

Indeed, it's just like calling assault rifle op because it's the go to weapon for most people, even though it's fairly balanced now. |

People will often follow trends and do what they perceive will give them an advantage. I thing the double or triple complex damage mod fad had more to do with a module placebo effect than the actual damage boost the modules were giving to weapons. I think it was appealing because players perceived that they were getting a special deal using a "broken" mechanic, but this thread is about how that wasn't the case. Not about how complex damage modules are in need of some sort of tweaking. And only the displayed multiplier was inaccurate. And the stacking penalty has been in effect this whole time.
There is no way that game makers can force people to diversify in a game when players latch onto something and all start using it. Anecdotal evidence of many people using the same module doesn't prove anything other than you may have talked to a number of people who were using the same module. That does not show it is better than any other option or in need of adjustment.

There are mainly problems with the passive bonuses and not the damage mods. |
