Just picked one up and I need a few tips on how to get the most of it. Just tips on how to aim at long range, good locations to use it from, and how to deal with enemies that get too close. |

Short range shots, aim for the target. Mid range shots, aim high. Long range shots, aim higher.
Point-blank shots, aim behind the target instead of at them. That way, you avoid the splash killing you along with the target.. |

Use the ladder. The longer the shot the further down the ladder you place the target. |

Splash is your friend, lead your target. Use an assault variant to begin with...its easier and more friendly. |

the bigger AOE radius may look nice in the beginning but as soon as you have to fight close you will regret it. with the regular one you just aim slightly behind your target, still hit him but not yourself. with the assault variant you will just kill yourself as there is no way to avoid the huge splash up close. the regular one is also alot better against heavies, HMG or charging forge guns are easy to hit directly. |

When using it, remember, you dont need direct hits, the splash is usually plenty, the only times you need a direct hit is when fighting Heavies, in which case a direct hit isnt that difficult, and will do alot more damage. It's most effective when you're with teammates, that way you can take potshots at the enemy, keep their heads down and damage them while teammates mop them up. The higher you are the better, keep the effects of gravity and distance in mind, and lead moving targets. The 'Driver is arguably one of the most difficult weapons to aim, you cant just point and shoot. The explosive takes time to get there. As has been mentioned, at close range try to aim just behind them to avoid receiving spalsh from your own weapon. Alternitively, at close range you could try to directly hit them, sacrificing some health for an increased amount of damage, but I would reccomend against this. |

Practice a lot and pay attention to the arc. Eventually you will internalize the arc and your mid to long range aim will improve. |

Don't fire at a head poking up over a hill. Some might say they are a crackshot and can headshot from 20m+, but good luck doing that as an MD noob.
And don't add Damage modifiers unless you plan to keep at medium range battles. You will more likely kill yourself before yor enemy up close. |

Pack flux grenades, MDs suck against shields, but are awesome against armour - flux grenades remove shields from the equation |

Im talking about getting your aim in, much easier to compensate and start getting hits with the assault. |

I prefer to use the MD as a supporting weapon to disorientate the enemy team. I usually don't plan to get kills with it but since I basically pull in an assist most times, it certainly adds up. I find 1v1 situations against an AR are extremely difficult without the high ground advantage.

You can get a lot of kills with the Assault version that you wouldn't otherwise get with other weapons. I've had people pinned behind railings and in rooms in skim junction and instead of charging out into my team, they stay inside and get eaten by round after round of my assault. And as a logi, since I'm always running around with nanohives i'm rarely ever out of ammo.
The added advantage of the bigger splash damage for the assault is that all those people affected by it are having their aim affected by the blast. So it is assisting your team in that way as well. |

The EXO-5 was my primary weapon while I was busy training up all those logistics skills. To me, the weapon was secondary. Keeping my squad standing up and shooting in the right direction was more important.
Now that I've had the time to get Mass Driver Operation finished off and Proficiency up a few levels I've started working with the Assault variant more. In my support role I've kind of fallen in love with it. I can send more rounds down range and damage a lot more reds so that my team can finish them off. The disorientation of even more rounds hitting them helps too. But, I was surprised that I could solo kill just as effectively per ammo load as long as I could keep distance.
I've added an Assault variant to each of my normal dropsuit fittings and will be testing them out even more.
The only drawbacks I've found with mass drivers is my number of suicides has gone up as my skills have improved. I need to train up another weapon for fighting in close quarters. |
