As you may have guessed, I'm wondering if there will be any form of flamethrower or flamethrower like weapon coming in. I think it could really change up the close quarters fighting. They could fit in as either a light of heavy weapon I think. So, what do you guys think? Would they suit the game? What problems or reservations might you have of this notion? |

So let me get this straight the suit that i fight in can wtihstand the harsh atmospheric conditions and violent swings in temperature and weather conditions but a bit of fire and my shields fall apart?

Make it terrible shield damage and moderate armor damage. Have it work like the lasers do, but at much more close range. |

I see your point, but I'd think if it were implemented, backgroud wise, it'd be thousands of degrees, rather then "a bit of fire" I also mentioned "flamethrower like weapon" meaning a weapon that acts much like a flamethrower, but be a physically different weapon, so as to have a weapon that would make more sense background wise.

[Skills] Plasma flamethrower operation: 3% damage bonus to all fires started.
Plasma flamethrower proficiency: 5% fire duration per level
[Variants] Burst: Fires in powerful semiautomatic bursts, and would basically be a heavy shotgun.
Tactical: Bigger magazine, more range, but less damage.
Scorcher: Lower damage, but more fire duration (things stay on fire longer).
Breach: Small magazine, high damage.
[What it could look like]It could look much like fire like this or this, though prefferably with a distinctive color like purple (game needs more color variety). I want this, but only for heavies. I think that style of fighting is very suited to the heavy, and would keep scouts from running around lolburning everything. Super heated sticky burning plasma that lightly damages shields but quickly chews through armor with a burning after effect.....mmmmm.....
Unfortunately, a Minmitar variant isn't likely since flint and steel isn't very exciting..... |

I'd actualy like to see the flame thrower(if there ever is one) be a AOE weapon that doesn't stick to shields but does stick to armor, like a super napalm. Give it a 3-5 second burn time small damage, its not meant to go one on one but clear areas and soften targets.
actually keep with eve lore a flame thrower would be more effective against shields then every thing but lasers and more effective against armor then every thing but explosives.
you are a small minded cretin if you think that flame throwers couldn't work against these suits. I mean a ******* shot gun does, a few hundred degrees is quite a bit less then a few thousand, that any futuristic flame thrower could reach. hell we have suits now that could with stand the conditions on these planets but that couldn't take a current day flame thrower. Of course I could put together a suit that could but then current day flame throwers aren't hot enough to ionize atoms. |

Makes no difference in the long run. A heavy can stand with a particle accelerator storing a massive charge "that would catch an ordinary person on fire" while not only becoming more lethal but not suffering damage.
We walk through fire all the time with no damage.
As long as none of that changes I would be fine with you spending SP on lawn care products.
Past that, what an incredibly lame idea. Laser rifles already do more than a mere flame thrower can do and they haven't gotten their buff yet. |

I think there's room in the game for a short range DoT area denial environmental weapon. It would fit well as a heavy weapon.

I completely support this idea in every way, we need more heavy weapons!
Honestly though it would be extremely hard to balance, it's suppressive effect in CQ alone would give it a significant advantage over existing CQ focused weapons.

Well, as has been mentioned, there'd be a very, very limited range, and you'd need to breach the shields first, something that flames aren't particulary renowed for accomplishing. I see it as working as a support weapon, flushing the enemies out as they burn, allowing your allies to finish them off, much like how I use the flux grenades. Except with fire.
