I think the music in Dust 514 is pretty lame and actually takes away from the in game sound effects. I want to offer an idea that both adds more customization to the jukebox in Dust and more sound effects to the natural movement and sounds in Dust.
Jukebox
All players should get a in game and mercenary quarter jukebox. The jukebox in the mercenary quarters can be accessed through the neocom or by walking up to the jukebox and activating it. Jukebox will come with standard EVE and Dust music for players to listen to. The jukebox will also allow players to upload there own music into the jukebox so they can play it through their drop suit helmet. The option to favorite songs would be available so players could sort through and select which song they wanted to play with out taking to much time out of the actual shooting in game.
Jukebox -
Favorites- list of favorited music My Music- your downloaded songs Dust songs- list of dust and eve music
[Favorites Option] By clicking triangle on a song it is added to your favorite section
Sound Effects
Secondly I think not only should the sound effects be improved which CCP is probably already doing but the realism of the sound effects should also be improved. For example not only should every foot step be heard but foot steps over different objects and plat forms should all make original noises. Running over dirt and a built base should have different distinct sound effects. I'd like to see CCP implement the most minuet sounds like wind hitting our helmets or our suits scraping against a wall.
Where this effects you
Realism and HD effects every player because it makes a more enjoyable game this is probably clear to everyone. Another reason I think players would like this is because in other games people can actually listen for distinct sounds like that of an enemy running towards their position. These sounds can be more useful then any scanner and if an enemy is not smart about the noise he is making he will will get him self killed. |

Dust's music is generally more "atmospheric" and less "theatrical". I don't mind this, but I'm not against a better soundtrack.
We had a sound pack introduced a while back, that gave us new weapon sounds, and a better song on the overview map. The sounds were great, but we had serious issues with all sounds suddenly cutting out. So the sound pack was quickly rolled back.
The new song for the overview map did a MUCH better job setting the mood than the current one. In the very least, I'd like to see that song brought back.
Since the sound pack was rolled back, I can't bring myself to play with the music. I've cut music volume off, and I just run a playlist off of the XMB menu (a jukebox isn't really necessary since you can run your own playlists in Dust at any time).
(Would I would like to see in the Merc Quarters is a news and lore monitor of the events in New Eden. It feels good to know that things happen when we play. Just like with the Caldari Prime event.) |

I agree to an extent; the jukebox/theatrical music and weapon sounds don't bother me at all (RE: Jathniels post), but the peripheral sound effects definitely could use an overhaul in my opinion.... as far as i remember the sound pack that was rolled back didn't include any peripheral sound effects just the ones that affect weapons. One that clearly stands out to me that is missing, is enemy footsteps.
Countless times I've had enemies sneak up behind me with nothing more than the sound of gunfire into the back of my head as a warning. Now, while I have no problem with stealthiness being tied into a skill such as profile dampening and distance to reduce the volume of these footsteps, I find it difficult to believe a heavy suit looking the way it does, doesn't make a significant noise when moving.
This is just one example; there are many idiosyncrasies in this department that I feel would improve the overall game experience. Having said this, I understand they have a sound development team so hopefully there are some welcome changes in the next build |
