I've heard a lot of people say that ambush is the way to go since its a lot shorter per match and makes a lot of ISK profit.
For me, I gain at least 11k per skirmish match with an active booster and maybe 5-6k for ambush.
Someone enlighten me further. |

it is preference. For SP, it is debatable, but gaining ISK is 100% better in ambush. You get 2-3 games of 200k ISK, compared to one 300K in skirmish. T |

You must have misunderstood, it's best ONCE capped. You end up getting the same amount of ISK and SP once it happens but ambush is half as long. On the other hand before you cap is entirely up to choice. |

I understand the reason why ambush is best post-cap. The main question is which mode would get me to the SP cap at a faster rate with the cap being around 280k SP or so.
EDIT: ......so Ambush is faster per match or for working towards the SP cap goal? |

Pretty sure they end up taking about the same amount of time to reach the cap. Though like Berserker said, you should gain a little more ISK by doing ambush. I personally prefer ambush anyway, I don't like how skirmish matches are so slow and tend to drag on. |

like i said, it really goes either way. As ambush is faster, but it really comes down to which team you are on (for score); as most games tend to be rather fast.
For skirmish, it doesn't really matter which team you are on SP wise, as you'll get ~ 7.5-8K for fast games/MCC ; and anywhere from 9-13k in playing & non-redline.
It comes down to what you want. if i play solo i tend to do skirmish (even though lose mostly since blues suck), but i get more kills & more WP so more SP. If w/ a squad usually do a bit of both, but ambush i usually only hit 4k b/c of who i play with |

Someone enlighten me further. A skirmish match can be anywhere from 2 twice as long to three times as long. And the ISK pay out is far better in ambush. |

I've already tried testing this on my own schedule: one week of skirmish vs. one week of ambush.
To my surprise, I hit the SP cap by just playing ambush a lot quicker than by just playing skirmish. (I barely made the SP cap last night for skirmish matches.)
Despite this observation, I don't have enough data to make a conclusion. And, there are too many variable to make one like how good is my team/other team, are there a lot of snip |

yup, i think either way you hit the cap in ~13 hours, give or take an hour . As figure you'll get ~21k SP an hour from playing either mode; so do a 280k/21kph = 13.3hour |

But of course, there's always the chance of joining a game in session or one that's just about to end or a match that's vacant, taking away from the theorized SP/hour figures. |

There is that and the fact the non-trivial downtimes between matches as a result of lag (thus favoring the longer games) that throw the equation off a bit, but overall I've found ambush to be the better source of SP. Especially if, like me, you can only play for a few minutes at a time. |
