In all honesty, I doubt Dust will be one of the graphical stand outs. Dust's strengths will be in the depth of the gameplay and the vast, open universe, as opposed to flashy graphics.
This is all speculation on my part though.

and also i don't think it will happen any time soon. it will most likely happen in 2-3+ years before the switch will be complete. |

I don't give a damn about graphics- little things that nobody notices anyhow just hurt the performance. I would rather have a game that works perfectly with terrible graphics than a game with perfect graphics that plays at half a frame a second. |

Graphics may look awesome, but the AI was still crap. The one person in that video got shot 3 times, each time standing straight back up. If you lived through the first shot in real life, you want stay on teh floor crawling, or jump up and sprint the hell away. No depth of combat, no thanks. |

personally, i agree, working game comes first, but i would still like to see dust reach that level of detail eventually. along with a fully destructible enviroment |

If only those great realistic graphics were used on something with an interesting and artistically crafted world... speaking of which, I need to get Bioshock Infinite. |

But it would be nice if structures had varying levels of durability. Some structures you might have to call down multiple orbitals, or a special kind of orbital. Only the flimsiest (maybe civilian?) structures would actually fall to regular battlefield weapons (tank missiles, forge guns, etc.). At least, that's how I would want destructibility to work.
We'll probably get some pretty fancy graphics at some point in the future, but it's rightly a long way off, and I'm not worrying about it. |

It's funny.
Gameplay is always claimed to be the most important, but that's usually coming from the people who haven't yet mastered said gameplay. The ones who have are already tired of it, and realize that even with new additions to the gameplay, that gameplay will always be mentally conquered in due time.
To me, everything is formulaic. New graphics and the ability to immerse oneself is always welcome though. Art is timeless. Gameplay gets old.
This must sound ass backwards to most people, though. |

Even now, I still love going back to games from the 90's and early noughties, even though the graphics are sub-par, to say the least, compared with today. For example, FF7, Baldur's Gate, Age of Empires, Diablo, etc, etc. Even Minecraft is up there on gameplay. A good game will always attract players, regardless of how good or bad graphics are. Good games will continue to keep players, and have a large community, long after the graphics have become outdated.
Let's wait and see which category DUST slots into. |
