Topic above.
Basically, once the PS4 is released, will the PS3 be obsolete for playing DUST? Will CCP move abandon the PS3 and leave it in the DUST? (lolstealthpun)
Two of the reasons I ask. This first is many of the people I talk to and want to recruit to play this ground-breaking and revolutionary game (which is not hyped up, technically it is), those people do not have a PS3 currently. When the PS4 releases, I expect the PS3 to drop in price (however, I could be wrong in this and the current price is the lowest we will ever see a new system be retailed for).
Also, if in fact DUST will still be playable on the PS3 when DUST moves to the PS4, won't that limit the development since you now have to have 2 versions of DUST? This is a hypothetical question since I have no knowledge about coding for different systems, or if the same program/game could be run the PS3 and PS4.... You guys know what I'm trying to say there right?
The second reason depends on the answer I get and could be beneficial to your player base as we will know what to do / save up for in the future. If CCP does ditch the PS3, I will know to save up for a PS4 and be ready to buy one to continue playing DUST. However, if CCP decides to continue to support the PS3 for a time (whether that window of time be SoonGäó or for as long as possible), I will know to tell my friends to save their money for a PS3 and buy when the (probable) price drop hits when the PS4 realises to at least give DUST a chance.
Alternatively, you could give my Xbox 360 friends a chance by releasing it for that platform (a pipe-dream, I know. I read about the network issues. GG Micro-strict. )
Also want to ask the community, do you see a price drop for the PS3 in the future and if so, would that affect telling

Yeah... just ditching the PS3 in favor of the PS4 the instant it comes out would be a slap in the face to a lot of beta testers who aren't ready or don't want to immediately switch over "thank you for helping us turn Dust 514 into a great game, now go buy a PS4if you want to continue playing"
I would think they would try to support both consoles for a while, maybe 2-3 years. |

the game is not out of beta, so I am certain that CCP will not think much about it until maybe two years...
PS4 version of DUST is currently just speculation... |

CCP will more than likely maintain both PS3 and PS4 clients for a couple of years after the PS4s release, otherwise they'll lose a HUGE chunk of their player base by cutting out those who don't upgrade immediately. |

CCP will probably create something to monitor the logins from both systems and once the PS4 Either PS4 seriously outweighs PS3 logins or Sony decides to cut all PS3's from their network. I'd give the PS3 another 3 years or so on the network before I could see Sony locking it out so that Sony could continue progress and improvements on their own networks for the ps4 and in preparation for the future, which, certainly the PS3 would be old news after a few years from PS4's release.
Besides, I can see people saving up and waiting until it launches for the PS4 to actually buy the PS4. I know of one person who will be waiting. I myself would like to buy a PS4 at launch but might wait for bugs to iron out. Once it hits the PS4, I can see a lot of current players migrating over to the PS4 if they don't already own one (assuming they can afford it at the time, if not, then give it a year for the majority, but that's just my opinion, lol). |

wonder if the ps3 and ps4 users would be able to interact with each other, like how the ps3 users interact with pc users. |

I'd want to transfer across sometime in, say, 2015. It gives the PS4 sometime to develop a consumer base, as well as DUST. Or possibly late 2014. It all depends PS4 sales, as the transition will be expensive, as the PS4 isn't backwards compatible.
I'd say that Sony would want to cut PS3's from PSN in 2016/2017, with technical support being phased out in 2015.
