I'm super excited for the cloak! ... But do we know if it is a piece of equipment attached to you or something you throw on the ground. if the latter.... I've lost 75% of my excitement. |

They've confirmed it's an equipment item, and as a personal cloak, it SHOULD be something that moves with you, not a deployable. That would be weird. |

I am not excited. Cloaking is one of the hardest mechanic, if not the the hardest, to balance in a FPS. CCP is new to the FPS industry and their track record of balancing has been very sketchy for the last year. Only a handful of games have ever got cloaking right, and I hardly expect CCP to be one of them. |

The only games I can count is
MGO-
Either you were very limited with your cloaking device or everyone had cloaking devices. The actual game modes were really complex the more I think about it...but essentially you couldn't do anything cheap.
Of course there was butt hurt, but what game doesn't have that? |

Transformers: War for Cybertron did cloaking well.
You could learn what to look for and spot cloakers more often than not, but good cloakers still used it to good advantage. Also, it was restricted to the second-most-fragile class in the game, and there was a sensible (short, but not too short) duration with a long enough cooldown to avoid it being spammed too readily. It could even be buffed to give a damage bonus as you're coming out of cloak, and even with that, it didn't feel OP.
Last time I played Fall of Cybertron they had just nerfed the cloak because it had been (slightly) OP. I don't know if they ever fixed it, but the nerf was a CCP-level over-nerf of the ability, so it was borderline useless because you could only cloak for about a second if you wanted to actually move while cloaked. But then, a lot of changes in FoC were for the worse in MP. |
