I've been thinking about this for a while, seeing that on the PS4 Unreal 4 will come over, which is great if you saw the showcase. Here's the link if you didn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY20pxEQM-A
Either ways, I'm not sure if CCP will try to transfer from unreal 3 to 4 and if it will require coding the game from the start. If they do, the lava planets and other general planets will elements will surely look amazing, along with realtime weather effects, maybe earthquakes, etc. What do you guys think about this? |

I don't see why they wouldn't put it on the PS4. I understand that the PS3 has a huge player base but the console is old and will not be able to handle any games over the next few years. It is pushing the limits now because most developers do not take the time to learn how to program for the cell processor. |

It is easy to convert UE3 to UE4. Incredibly easy. And UE is incredibly flexible by itself. So... all in all, it will be easy to get dust running on PS4 asap. And game looks already great judging from Uprising gameplay. |

I can already imagine cracking surfaces with lava on planets we're fighting on, 50v50 merc battles and even more destruction. |

As far as I know the PS4's processor will make programming incredibly easy , just like on a PC, so I'm guessing CCP won't have trouble on developing the game there. |

odds are:
if they make enough money from the ps3 version, they might be able to use it to port the ps4 version. but that's a whole new build. not the same hardware, won't be the same dev situation.
if the ps3 version tanks... no there won't be a ps4 version.
what they consider tanking and what we consider tanking is prolly up for debate.
some folks still think mag turned out ok and think it didn't tank.
it all comes down to the money.
no money...
no ps4 honey.

The thing is though would be licensing fees of the new engine and getting used to it and ensuring the heavily modified unreal engine is still going to behave on the new playground. Yes assets are easily transferable but what about the skills window? Market? Corp Managment? |

i'm telling ya:
there will be a ps4 version if the ps3 version has legs.
if the may build tanks and the game falls off or the player base dwindles down to mag levels, then hell no they wouldn't dump more money into a loss. especially when you are talking about a fall ps4 release AND gtav is coming along with it?
if 514 doesn't make enough money on the ps3, there won't be a ps4 version.
that's bizness 101.

Theres been rumors that this game will transfer over to the PS4.
Now question is will be cross platform , Still allow Eve to interact with PS3 and PS4 , and PS4 User to interact with PS3 Users.
Probably not. |

UE4 was shown at GDC 2012 and released to Devs shortly afterwards |

UE4 was shown at GDC 2012 and released to Devs shortly afterwards Pretty sure Dev builds are still running on Unreal Engine (whichever version they got from Epic), just not UE4. You don't really need the new engine to come with great visuals.
I do hope CCP does make at least a working port for PS4, since I want to see battles on the level of MAG in terms of pam population.
I also could use larger, more intricate maps... |

yea but the issue i see is if they are optimizing any of the performance around cell that wont easily transfer over to x86 and this is one of the main reasons why there isnt backwards compatibility on ps4 without emulation.
So unless they are programing both side by side or that is the reason why they havent fully optimized gameplay is because they are waiting to go to the x86 i dont see this coming to ps4 for at least a year maybe two into ps4's release(it would be dependent oh how many purchase ps4 year one whether or not CCP has planned for these development considerations |

Read up on Unreal Engine.
It's platform agnostic, meaning it doesn't require extra/special coding to take advantage of CELL, the difference in hardware between PS3 and PS4 is meaningless where Unreal Engine is concerned. Also there is an asset pipeline and toolchain that runs directly through UE3 -> UE4
It would be madness for any Dev to be building any new game exclusively on UE3 when it's so easy to prototype on UE4 and then just convert assets and kismet code back to UE3 standards.
There's also no reason to assume there would be any problems with running 2 (or more) different clients (PS3 & PS4), single shard technology is designed for this reason, many clients -> one server.
Madness! I tell thee... |
