Do the other varieties only work for yourself and your squad or is there one that you can purchase without getting the merc pack that allows your whole team to spawn?
I see the "max spawns per unit" stat but that doesn't tell me if it's just squad limited or not.
Thanks. |

I've been using the cheap militia drop uplinks and have been seeing them get used by what I think is everyone. Not sure if it limits it to squad use though.
It's been the main source of my WP in any given match the last day or so, granted they only allow for ten spawns before being used up. |

ok! So last I checked Hacked uplinks are supposed to be the only uplink that works for your whole team.
However, some have reported a bug where (after a period of time it seemed) random people were able to use them too. I'm not sure if this was fixed.
If you're not in a squad, the game seems to consider you in one squad with everyone else who is not in a squad. There's just no leader (so no mark or orbitals). However, if you're not in a squad, then everyone else who is also not in a squad can use your drop uplinks. |

And that seems to be a reason to not join a squad right now
At least in randoms. |

I have tested and all types/versions of uplinks allow for team spawns.
- For an uplink to show on the map for team members they must die within X meters of it, this range is in a bubble not a circle (i.e. high matters).
- *unconfirmed* This bubble seems to be effected by the meta level of the uplink used.
- *unconfirmed* If one squad member "lights up" an uplink squad mates seem to be able to spawn on that link
- Uplinks do not stay lit up on the mini map/deployment screen, just because you used one before does not mean it will remain accessible to you.
- The "no squad" pool within a team counts as it's own "squad" for purposes of uplink deployment and use.
Hope this info helps

Hmm I guess it isn't so clear cut after all. Thanks for all the input though, it definitely helps! |

it kind of is :P
if you are screwing around in pubs it doesn't matter too much, but if you need a reliable teamspawn for your corp in a corp battle, go with hacked, and only hacked. |

Its almost as if any of them can be used by the team, but only if they are cached on your map. For some reason the haced modules appear cached at all times and don't reset. I wonder if there is code that dumps known map locations and a checking field with a unique non-null value for hacked uplinks.
I really think the equipment module data library needs some overhauling. Not only from a technical point of view, but from an informational and marketplace logic one. |

Hacked are supposed to work for your whole team. It's not a bug or problem with code or anything like that at all. It's intentional. The other ones sometimes work, but are not reliable. If you want a reliable teamspawn, use hacked. |

A lot of items need better descriptions within the market to clearly establish their intended function. I've lost count of the number of posts I've read where people debate the mechanics of a piece of gear based on something in it's flavor text and even the sat blocks don't over all relevant aspects in many cases.
Uplinks and how they function very much need an address from CCP regarding what "working as intended" is and is not in relation to the various iterations. The uplink is the least used piece of equipment (according to CCPs recent blog) and having done a lot of testing with them I'm confident much of that lack of use can be laid at the feet of unclear mechanics.
