In most medieval/fantasy style games you have different classes of fighters. The heavy class in plate armor is slow but can soak up damage. The light fighter can't take nearly as much damage, but is nimble and can avoid getting hit.
In DUST the medium and light vehicles don't seem to be proportionately more nimble and elusive than the heavy. Good tank drivers can duck behind cover just as fast as any other class.
Homing missiles don't care how nimble you are, they hit everyone the same. LAV or DS, if it gets a lock, you get hit. There is some differentiation when it comes to the FG, but it's pretty slim once you gain personal proficiency with the weapon.
So what if anything sould differentiate the various classes? |

What !?
We don't have any medium vehicles yet and there's only one size of aircraft.
LAVs are far more agile and way faster than any HAV.
So what's your question ? |

You can dodge swarm missiles in a LAV if you get lucky. I happened to bounce off hill and do a spin in the air, making all the swarms crash into the ground around me. It was quite exhilarating.
On a more serious note, I don't see it as much of a problem. A well outfitted LAV can take a couple militia swarm shots or a forge gun and escape. If you are using militia LAVs you should be by even basic AV.
Dropships definitely need more resistance to AV weaponry, as they cannot easily get behind cover and can be seen from across the map. Right now they have barely more survivability than a paid for LAV. |

So that's one vote for letting AV be balanced against heavy vehicles and make lighter classes rely upon luck. |

Perhaps you just need to practice your LAV driving more? I can usually escape from enemy AV even with a starter LAV. They are MUCH faster than tanks, so I'm not sure what you really mean. |

Is the dropship the medium size of aircraft or is it the light version ? If it's the light version it would make more sense in it's current flimsy state. |

Dropships are arial vehicles. You board and ride in a vehicle.
The map icon displays the DS as a medium vehicle. |

When a Swarm Launcher is fired at a Dropship that's heading on an angle away from the shooter, the Dropship is fast and agile enough to have a chance of escaping.
When Swarms are fired at LAVs, they can usually take cover behind terrain if the driver knows what they're doing.
Working as intended? Maybe not quite, but it isn't far short. |
