When I first heard about Dust 514 and that it would be directly tied to Eve Online I thought this was a brilliant idea. However once I heard that it would be for the PS 3 I was shocked to say the least. However was willing to give it a chance and so signed up for beta. When I first got in to beta I couldn't even get in to the game. I stopped trying and gave up. However I recently decided to give it another shot. So I thought I would give my thoughts and opinions on the game.
The first thing is the graphics are complete garbage. I don't know why CCP has lowered the graphics to such a point but it makes the game look terrible. The PS 3 is capable of handle handling so much more. So I don't know what CCP is thinking or if they intend to improve the graphics down the road, I do hope so.
The second thing I saw that I loved but I can see as being a major killer for this game is the ability to use Mouse and Keyboard. Most people on console (you're target audience if you will) are use to the controller. Going head to head with players using mouse and keyboard gives those players a disadvantage. This is reason FPS on console don't allow people to use a mouse and keyboard. This brings me to my next train of thought. If you're going to allow mouse and keyboard why limit the game to console? Why not put it on PC where the game should be to begin with?
The next is how complex the game. The game is to complex for a console. The fact is that most of you're target audience (the players that will make the game popular) will becoming from games like BF3 and COD. Once in they are not going to want an overly complex FPS and why would they when they can get simple FPS like BF3 and COD. At least on PC players expect some complexities.
The bottom line is that while the game is brilliant idea but it needs lot of improvement. It should not be on the console period but that is just my opinion for what it's worth. However it is what it is. I would start by improving the graphics and taking out the ability to use a mouse and keyboard. I would simplify the interface and make understanding skills, Gear, etc much easier to understand. This would go a long way to improving the game. |

All I really played was BF3 before playing this...
Crushed feelings aside a major graphic update is on the way, balancing measurements have been taken to keep controllers and kbm on the same level and will be continued, and even though it's a bit complex there are plenty of tools they can use to learn how the game works (YouTube for example). |

im also a COD player and occasionally halo, and I can say that dust514 wins over them hands down, in COD you cant control anything other than your character and in halo there aren't many weapon choices, all in all dust514 is a great game for me, its complicated which I like because it separates the nooblets from the real players and the fact that its on ps3 is even better because we don't have any console exclusive games like this. |

@Graphics Beta, Graphics are the least of our worries and they will be improved over time
@KBM Providing enough tweaking goes into the KBM side, we should be fine, I can't shoot with a KBM honestly but I'm capable with a controller whilst others will be the other way around.
@PC over Console No. Theres a marketing reason CCP chose the PS3 over another PC game, it opens up a new pool of previously untouchable players for CCP. Also gives a new place to "advertise" for CCP, many players I've met through DUST have began playing EVE, I plan on playing it also when I get my PC back in working order.
@Complexity You're thinking about the players who will come, play for a few months and then leave for the next COD or Battlefield, the more "hardcore" players will play this game for the complexity and will love it because of that. People constantly complain that the games we get now are too easy, that they're developed for idiots and you just have your hand held throughout the game, heres a game that doesn't do that, that gives you a lot of control over your character, gives you more access to a MMO world than anything ever before and we're now back to complaining about it being to complex? -_- |

Yeah issues surrounding getting INTO matches have been mostly remedied.
Graphics were actually worse before, they are gradually improving. (It's not the same engine as BF3, but if BF3 can make big maps, and put a lot of people in the map, and STILL look as good as it does, i'm 100% sure Dust can do the same in time.) Memory and Video Memory management is constantly being tweaked.
I am a KB/M user, and I am a sniper. I am capable of acquiring a very good measure of target tracking and precision because of this. However, this doesn't automatically translate into an unfair advantage. There are snipers that play with gamepad, that can track targets just as well. Gamepad also controls vehicles better. Especially dropships. Dust supports a wide variety of controller inputs. PS-Move, KB/M, Gamepad, and others. This caters to players that have preferences, and opens the game to much wider audiences. Question i pose is, can you tell who is using a gamepad from who is using a kb/m in game? Not likely, and that I believe makes the case.
As for the game complexity, I know a LOT of players that have come from BF3 and CoD that really enjoy it. They view BF3 and CoD as more comical and kiddie (and even easier), the longer they play Dust. I know I did. I sniped in BF3, came to Dust to snipe, went back to BF3, and trololol'd at how my accuracy had improved and how easy sniping was in it. Complexity for simpler players in Dust can and should be handled with: - Bigger, easier to read menus, and simplified tooltips. - Graphical skill tree (showing how the skills interconnect), and class/role presets advising you which skill you should train next. - Skill names that better describe what the skill your getting actually does. (Shield Adaptation has NOTHING to do with adapting.)
...and other things like this.
As was stated, this game is a work in progress. The testers and developers are playing and working hard to refine it. Give it more time before a final judgement. :) |

and more bs...
Oh, the scandal!
The game is much less complex than many console games. And I was going to try to put together a resonable counter to your namby pamby and simpering excuse for a post... But you know what? I am sick of this crap.
F' it. Maybe I agree with you. I know you can't give one actual good reason to support your opinion of where the game should be... and you must not have been paying attention to anything related to EVE or Dust 514 over the past 4 years if it is a surprise to you that it is on console. When did you first hear of this game? Last week on Massively? But fine. Maybe you are right. Vikings go home. Don't ever set out to try something new. Don't ever stray from the familiar. Don't ever try to innovate or reach out toward the unknown. Go back to PC and take all of these **** wits with you. |
