I am a relatively new mercenary, I haven't been spending much SP. The only skills I have put sp into are weaponry and dropsuit command to V, and caldari assault dropsuit to I.
I prefer being well rounded rather than specialized, but if specialization is the way to go I generally go for a bpo fit of the butterfly, assault rifle, sub machine gun and a droplink.
I have 1112000 sp unallocated. What should I spend it on? |

Get type2 calamari suit. It's fifty times better than the type1 PoS.
Get complex shield extenders. They are good 4 you. After that you can work on raising a weapon skill a bit, or getting the standard level of gear for what you're going to use (reduced PG/CPU from MLT).
Light weaponry skills are good too. Don't get the reduced CPU one for now, or capacity (it increases the # of rounds you can carry, and not the clip.) Stick to LW Sharpshooter if you're going for light weapons.
Sidearms are nice too if you want to use them. I like pistols, but SMGs are great in CQC too. |

I'd up your assault rifle operation and light weapon sharpshooter (increased range) as well as some of your fitting skills. You could also skill up to the type-II assault which is likely the only suit you'll need for pub matches. |

Seconding Complex Shield Extenders as a high priority for scouts. The associated skill is Shield Enhancements I think.
More advanced scout suits to accomodate their fitting is a good next step.
I'd recommend putting at least one rank into laser rifle operation. Lasers don't need much investment to be good, they perform admirably at what they do right out of the box. At their best at longer ranges coupled with ranks of Light Sharpshooter, scout suits can manoeuvre into their sweet spot quickly and use it's range advantage over other weapons to mitigate incoming damage: you're either not in range at all or they'll be doing diminished damage and hitting less while you're doing full. Terrible at short range, pack a sidearm.
Need more CPU? Consider ranks in Circuitry.
If you have a weapon type you feel a major affinity for then steep investment will pay off. The benefits of the Operation skills are usually good and unlock further weapons. Once they're done with at 600k SP the Proficiencies add 3% more damage per rank which is not to be sniffed at. |

Putting points into Dropsuits is a particularly safe action. When all factions have all four suits to themselves, there will be a mass refund.
There are a few skills that will ALWAYS be useful, no matter what: Circuitry: 5% CPU per level? Great. Combat Engineering: 5% PG. Field Mechanics: 5% armor. Weaponry: 2% handheld weapon damage.
Those 4 skills are something that everyone, no matter their role, will want to max. Since they are all level 1 skills, it is not too bad. No matter what you are doing to end up doing, be it pilot, logistics, heavy, etc, you will need more HP, more PG/CPU, and more damage.
I would agree heavily with level 2 Caldari Assault Suits. Every level 2 suit, aside from the Assault Suit, gives up something for something else. IE, Logistics gives up third equipment slot for a side arm. Caldari suits only get bonuses. The main thing is to figure out what you want to do. I am a fan of the Assault Rifle, thus I have it maxed.
Don't knock militia gear! Aside from the Heavy Machine Gun, Lazer, and Mass Driver, there are Militia versions of all weapons. Militia is a great way to play cheaply when you want to figure out what you are doing. Play around with Militia gear before burning too many points elsewhere. That being said, I would suggest at least 1 level in all Dropsuits as the normal versions are superior.
Avoid Light Weapon Rapid Reload like the plague. It does not give NEARLY enough benefit. Assault Rifles reload at 3 seconds. Maxed LWRR gives 15%. That amounts to 450 milliseconds faster. Blinking is 300-400 milliseconds. It is imperceivable.
