The Heavy Maser Rifle is a massively powerful hand-held heavy laser weapon invented by Viziam. It has an incredibly long range, but is slow to aim. It, like the Laser Rifle, deals more damage the more it fires. It, however, takes far longer to become fully powerful. It is devastating against slow targets, and it also acts as AV. It is the only Heavy AV weapon to deal more damage against Shields than against Armor. Using it as an AV weapon is a risky move, since you leave yourself totally exposed, but if you have the guts to stand in front of a HAV, defiantly waving your beamzors at them, this weapon is for you. Also unlike the Laser Rifle, the Heavy Maser Rifle has no clip. It stores all of the ammo inside the weapon to begin with, no reloading necessary. Heat build-up is the only limitation. Unlike other Heavy weapons, the Heavy Maser Rifle is effectively useless at close-range.
Advantages over the Laser Rifle
- Deals more damage overall.
- Deals much more damage against vehicles.
- Has a longer range.
- Does not require reloading.
Disadvantages over the Laser Rifle
- Requires much more time to reach full power.
- Aims much, much slower.
- Slower movement speed while in use.
- Requires a Heavy Weapon slot.
Role of the Heavy Maser Rifle
- Provides long-range Anti-Vehicle against shielded targets.
- Can provide suppressive fire against distant targets. Nearby targets? Not so much.

I think the current laser rifle is fine for the Heavy. There's no need to add another one. |

All this talk about lasers has me wondering, has there been any talk about frequency crystals yet? I'm envisioning a few different types that would modify a few different things on a sliding scale. I know I've heard mention of custom ammo types, so this wouldn't really come as a surprise.
Here's my ideas. It's likely that only one of these will be implemented. As one stat goes up, the other goes down. +/- range, -/+ damage +/- fracture rate, -/+ damage +/- vehicle damage, -/+ infantry damage +/- armor damage, -/+ shield damage |

Actually, I do, which is why I greatly decreased the aiming and movement speed while it is in use as well as the charge range. Fast targets should have no problems avoiding it, and moderate-speed targets should be able to avoid it more easily than they avoid the standard laser rifle. It has more damage potential than the laser rifle, but so does the HMG to the assault rifle, yet we still see the assault rifle used so often. |

+1 to big laser
I would love the AV to work on a heat channeled fusion blast principle:
GÇó press and hold left to stream, dealing EM Therm damage GÇó click right while streaming to fire fusion nuggets along stream that hurt vehicles but only 2 ammo with usage delay. kind of an execution move on vehicles, exp therm damage. would require timing to get the critical burst right. GÇó build up time might also affect when the beam is hot enough to trigger the blast
Against infantry, the issues come mostly from current laser doom mode. Right now slaughtering squads with the built up stream is easy as writing your name with yellow snow. The heat buildup should be such that you can't hold the doom beam long enough to kill infantry consecutively. |

I wont lie, I dont know what the answer is, I like the idea, but currently we already have a laser that will kill mercs under a second and a half. Bigger laser = bigger damage.
Off the top of my head reduse range on the current laser, and dont let the heavy laser the abilty to zoom in.

It is supposed to be a long-range weapon. |

Just make the heavy immobile and the beam really slow to aim once it is being fired. And if the damage ramps up from low to high over a slowish period of time (2 - 3 seconds of continuous fire) it should be great. If your speedy Assault or Scout *** can't get out of a giant laser beam in 2 - 3 seconds, or you run directly into one that's already going, then you deserve to die.
Have the heat build up dictate the maximum amount of time it can be fired. And the longer you fire the more time you have to wait before you can fire again.
Damage could be: Damage = (Time Fired ^ 2) * 50
1 second = 50 DPS 2 second = 200 DPS 3 second = 450 DPS 4 second = 800 DPS 5 second = 1250 DPS (Milita / Basic Max Duration) 6 second = 1800 DPS (Advanced Max Duration) 7 second = 2450 DPS (Proto Max Duration) 8 second = 3200 DPS (Proto + HMR Operation V Max Duration)
It would be amazing for team fire support and AV, but wouldn't be the end all be all of weapons. The thing would suck solo and would need team support to survive. |
