Which weapon do you want to use the most? Infantry or vehicle? After that start investing in shields or armor, then get better weapons and upgrade your suit as CPU/PG becomes necessary. CPU/PG is the equipload of your suit, weapons and modules increase equipload. |

Welcome
I would recommend just playing a few games, jump straight in get a feel for the game and look at what you can do.
Follow other players and support them, see what they do.
Once you have done this try out some of the things you have seen and like the look of.
If you would like some support to begin with send me a mail in game, If you have a mic even better. Always happy to have a chat to help out |

Don't get discouraged, there are a lot of players out here that have been playing for a long time and are highly skilled that can and will kill you before you even have a chance to pull the trigger. But this is an awesome game because it is what you make of it. As some of the other vets have said focus on your core skills, you can hit me up also, if I have an opening in my squad I'll try to get you in and help you out. |

For start, prepare yourself as if preparing to play Dark souls :P
Honestly depends on what style of play you prefere, getting stuck into close combat? keeping enemies at bay, perhaps you rather sacriice combat ability to specialise in other other areas like hacking ect. If you don't mind telling people what type of game style you play or prefere we can help you more. |

Buy a lot of militia gear, every suit, every weapon, and test them out to see what you like. Upgrade passive skills like Vigor (extra stamina and stamina regen), Endurance (extra stamina), Field Mechanics (extra armor), Dropsuit Command (reduces scan profile, required for better dropsuits), and Weaponry (extra damage, needed for better weapons) first. A lot of the roles in Dust remind me of the ones in Tribes 2, so if you've ever played that, you have a basic idea of what is available to do. |

Start playing the game!
Make like 5+ extra characters with each on a different PSN and activate passive SP. Passive SP gives you SP at a steady rate. It is unaffected if you play or not. It can only be activated on one character per account.
That'll give you a bunch of trash accounts that you can use to see if you like something or not. |

I will give you some of what I've learned. I'm noob myself but I find that reading is important. No matter how boring it sounds, read these forums and learn about everything. Even stuff you don't use, learn it. Be wary of people for this game is set in the EVE universe. It's not uncommon for us noobs to be approached with scams and such.
You will find that your learning will come from various sources. I wouldn't stick with just one source. Understand your fits. Know that if you approach this game with a COD mindset, you will pay dearly for it. In fitting costs and battle. Get your skills leveled asap. Even if you don't have time for a match, up your skills while in quarters
Don't be a blueberry!!!!
Stick with your team, lone guns gets decimated
And remember, trust in this universe is a looser term than the labia of vegas prostitute |

Reading helps a small amount, but you get good by playing the game. You can go in with lvl 1 weaponry, spend 0 skill points on a new character and do extremely well in games using only the starter fits. If you're good that is :)
So basically, if you're having trouble playing it's either you need more FPS practice, or you're getting some bad lag and hit detection (it happens).
Once you get the face shooting part, read a little. There's no need to rush anything. I'd watch some youtube vids, but make sure you watch only the best player's videos to learn how to kill. Watch what they do in corp battles (the real team v team matches).
You're never going to get better at this game if you spend the entire time reading. The EVE guys come to dust and say it's "brutal" and "hard", and I think that's because they spend their entire time reading forums or something. Ok, I guess I have to admit I have no idea what that brutal or hard stuff is about.
They have a bunch of stupid acronyms too. The only one you need to know is INTFH (It's Not That ******* Hard)
edit: and when you take advice, it's probably a good idea to do a little research into who is giving it. Don't listen to noobz! |

Of course the battlefield is the best teacher. No argument with that. I was merely implying that he read about weapons and suits that are used so that he may understand some of their weaknesses. I have learned alot by just reading these forums and comments on youtube. |
