I've always thought that strafing speed is only determined by suit type, but I remember reading a post where someone mentioned type-2 assaults move sideways faster than type-1. In a ways it would make sense since type-2 have 0.1 m/s more movement speed -- but if so, does that mean that strafing speed is determined by or merely modified by the movement speed? More to the point, do vk.1 logi suits strafe almost as fast as scouts? ;)
Has anyone tested this? Or even better, happen to know if there's an official word on the matter? |

So I spent most of a skirmish strafing back and forth between two points with a stopwatch (look, a use for skirmish other than afk-farming -- hope they fix the stats-bug soon ;)).
Type-I Scout (movement 5.6/7.8) does appear to strafe slightly faster than a Type-II Scout (movement 5.5/7.7). This suggests that movement speed does indeed modify strafing speed.
Militia Logi (movement 4.6/6.6) strafes faster than Militia Assault (movement 5.0/7.0) so clearly the different suit types don't have the same base strafe speed.
Would have been nice to see how logi Type-II, B-Series and vk.1 compare to scouts in this respect but sadly I've not raised that skill this build. |

Pretty much this. Heavies have the slowest movement speed, so they can barely strafe. Also I believe it's tied to aiming, scouts can move the camera faster than other suits. |

I really don't think that militia logis have a faster strafe than militia assaults. |

Here's the numbers I got in case anyone is interested:
Scout Type-I: ~4.2 sec Scout Type-II: ~4.3 sec Militia Assault: ~5.5 sec Militia Logi: ~5 sec
This is the (approx) time it took me to strafe between the two points I'd picked. I hooked up a keyboard to be sure I only moved sideways and repeated the tests enough times to rule out bad positioning, lag, sloppy timing etc. The numbers are however far from precise. My only goal was to see if there was a difference between the two scouts, and also to get a very rough idea of the relative difference in strafing speed. |

If your numbers are based off of kb, I wonder what they'd be with controller. I know kb has bassically 100% max speed instantly, while there is an acceleration delay for the DS3. I wonder if the assault accelerates more quickly. |

I wonder if the assault accelerates more quickly. Checking with the controller now, I don't see any delayed acceleration. Numbers are the same as far as I can tell. Slightly less precision with the stick so the 0.1 second difference between type-1 and 2 scouts is harder to see, but that's all really.

I had my alt dump some SP into logi suits:
- Logi Type-II has a higher strafing speed than Type-I. - The difference is higher than that between Scout Type-I and Type-II. This makes sense since the difference in movement-speed is larger for the logi suits. - The difference is not as high as the jump from Assault Type-I to Logi Type-I.
Anyone that has unlocked proto logi feel like comparing Type-II, B-Series and vk.1 for me? |

Strafe speed is determined by a percentage of your movement speed. I forgot what the percent is, but the slower you can move, the slower you can strafe. Stick some armor plates on your suit and you'll see yourself slow down.
Unless of course, CCP changed it, but I'm pretty sure it's the same. |

I'd like to see the test strafing distance increased because an approximate .1 second difference isn't really enough to do anything with. |
