Players earlier in closed beta could call in free militia tanks and dropships that were fitted with militia modules. They also could call in a heavy, logistic, scout, and assault drop suit all fitted with militia weapons and modules. I think CCP should bring back this system of low grade suits for starter players it would allow them to get an idea of the dropsuits and vehicles they would like to use without putting money into them while not giving an effective op on the battlefield. Players who want to learn drop ships per say wouldn't have to risk a 400k drop ship just to learn how to fly it. But could call in free grade militia drop ships and get the hang of it before even deciding they wanted to place the skill points there. I dislike how all our fits are assault because it doesn't cover the range of fits players might want to learn and use.
Return heavy suit militia Return scout suit militia Return logistic suit militia Keep assault suit [frontline]
Keep free LAV Return militia tank Return Militia dropship

If you chose the Artificer starting class, you get a Logi suit. I you chose Arbiter, you get a Scout. Sentinels get a Heavy suit for free.
Free vehicles is a terrible idea, and we already get Dropsuits. |

At least be nice to offer purchaseable BPOs for the vehicles...
Help people realize they don't have to play Assault ONLY.
If niche roles like tankers and dropships were more readily available, we could possibly see more specialists come out of that.
Folks and newbies have to know there is so much more possibility to this game, then just being an assault with a small gun. >.< |

I agree with starter assaults replaced by the race dropsuits, I hate that Caldari is the default option for everyone. I want the race to be unique. |

I hope when we have racial variants for every frame size, they revisit this.
But for now, the Assault is the best option for a varied pick-up-and-play style of gamer. Logi suits would be too complex for a first outing for most players, and the other suits are specialised into their roles too far to be easy for just anyone to run with. |

Perhaps a Testing Ground for vehicles. You call in a free vehicle within the grounds to learn how to use them but they can not be used on the battlefield. |

Others can also use the various testing grounds at the same time so you can shoot at each other but no SP/WP, Isk or salvage is given and no stats e.g KDr and win/loss recorded. That has been begged for nearly forever. At least forever in DUST terms.

Free vehicles is a terrible idea, and we already get Dropsuits. Enforcer gets a decent Assault Drop Suit.
And the Starter Fits are available for all, or did they zap those? I still have mine but I haven't made a new character in some time.
Free LAVs of minimum worth is fine. Unless they have a fast travel solution for Heavies, Logi Bros or anyone using Armor the larger maps need some form of transportation.
Free HAVs were a terrible experience in the Closed Beta. |

A newb creating his character doesn't really understand the classes, I remember reading through it my first time not understand the difference in which was the logistic and assault class allowing everyone to use all 4 suits will allow people to make changes to what they want to do with their character. |

theres a reason that they took out the free tanks and dropships (I never saw any) in closed beta, they were probably used for fodder and spam, too many would be called in a single game and it wouldn't give a reason to go into skirmish because your in a vehicle |

I don't think that's a good idea. Honestly, I would like to see the free LAVs thrown out, too. They are annoying for several reasons: -No cost to a player when they lose them, thus allowing them to play bumper cars all game with no isk cost. (Admittedly, I do enjoy the almost easy war points for blowing them up and getting to look like a badass as the charred remains of the LAV grind to a halt right in front of me) -Discourages buying standard and prototype LAVs because they have a cost and blow up almost as easily. I haven't even trained either of the LAV skills because I see no real benefit in upgrading to the standard LAV. -Let's face it, it's frustrating to lose equipment you paid your hard earned isk for to someone who is sticking to free junk and that one death costs more than the entire mission cost the guy who killed you.
The whole "you have to buy your own equipment" element is the reason I wanted this game bad enough to buy a PS3 and it feels like the free gear seems to cripple that aspect of the game by making a lot of people cower in their free gear and do stupid stuff that people in paid for gear wouldn't dare try (i.e. running into melee range while firing your AR at them or running into the middle of an enemy team to get one guy.)
If anything, maybe lower the cost of militia vehicles, but nerf them a little to balance out the dropped cost.
TL;DR Free items will be the death of all that is fun in this game if those "AR = only role" guys don't kill it first. |
