As opposed to most of the complaint threads on this forum, I have a bone to pick with the actual posters, rather than the devs. Some of you complain about the content, or lack thereof; some complain about balance; some complain about the mechanics; others just complain about gameplay, and others still just complain to complain.
To all of those, HTFU. This is not a troll post, this will be a post to explain why the game is where it is at at the current point in time. Yes, I know this game isn't fully polished, and I wouldn't dare say otherwise. I can see a lot of areas where work can be done, but the fact that all of you constantly and consistently whine about the issues really, really bugs me. Especially since you whinge about it rather than giving constructive criticism, and on the "general discussions" rather than "feedback and requests" sub-forum
Right, about the content, or lack thereof. Most of you complain about the lack of game modes, about the lack of a variety of maps. Well, don't worry, that's being procedurally generated for use when districts come out. Yes, when. And you'll be amazed when, eventually (possibly in a couple of years) there's a full range of planets to fight on, across millions and millions of square kilometers. When CCP can get it put in. Not now. There are much bigger issues to deal with now, such as the mechanics and gameplay issues. But we'll get to that in time. But, even so, don't worry. This content is coming, and CCP will listen to feedback and requests, but whining doesn't do a single thing.
About balance... A big one over the last few days, or the week I've been back, has been AV/vehicle balance. More importantly, swarms vs any vehicle. Or, rather, a squad of AV against a tank. Seriously? You don't expect four specialised AV suits to take out a tank? Or one to take down what is essentially a helicopter, or a jeep? LAV's and DS's both have good speed. I've shot four shots at a DS before and had it fly out of range every time before my swarms hit it. The only reason I've killed LAV's are because they've come straight towards me or stopped. Also, with regards to sniper/AR/HMG/shotgun balance... Adapt or die. If you're a heavy, go around with an assault, to prevent scouts getting close. If you're out of cover, sprint, so that snipers have a harder time of hitting you. This game REQUIRES tactics, you can't expect to run into the middle of the enemy team and destroy them based on your awesomeness alone. Think about strategy games; why have infantry when you can have cavalry? Or archers? In the end, everything supports the other. Use that logic.
Re: mechanics and gameplay. Well. What can you expect? Yes, this game has been in development for five years, but four of those years have been brainstorming, work on the engine, building up a team in Shanghai to work on the game, work on the dropsuits, the UI, etc, etc, etc. Essentially, work on the game has been going on for a year with regards to actual gameplay. CCP has been collecting information with regards to how the game is being played, they're listening to feedback, and essentially doing everything they can to make this as enjoyable as possible. They've only been getting this feedback for a year, and it takes longer than that to fix things, so give it time. This is also their first FPS so mistakes will be made, all across the park, so it's up to us to give constructive criticism rather than just whinge.
Bear in mind that I'm not lumping anyone into this category. A lot of you identify faults with the game, and suggest ways to improve it. For example, saying there's a lack of game modes, and suggesting old, defunct game modes and maps to play on in the meantime. That's a decent suggestion. Suggesting that this game is awful, then pointing out flaws (e.g. dropships are awful, fix them), is hardly constructive.
This game is a work in progress, as it so helpfully states at the top of the screen when you play the game. Get used to it, stop whining, and post constructively. That's the only way you can help to make it a better game.

Not really. I'm complaining about people complaining about a game which is still being worked on. Which actually hasn't released yet. |

If you're not here to help make it a better game... Well. What are you doing here? Well when you've hyped up people's expectations, again and again only to fail on delivery it could have something to do with it.
Even more so if you shelled out cash on those promises.
The community aren't the ones guilty of raising expectations here. They don't know or care about the brave CCP developers. All they know what they were told - and might have bought a PS3 for - is not much more than promises of a maybe better future.

I'm not saying that CCP is free of any blame. I'm just saying that whining doesn't help CCP make this a better game. If you read the last few sentences, I just say to actually HELP them make the game better rather than just whinge.
At the same time, and for the (hopefully) last time, THIS IS A BETA. This is in no way the finished article. It possibly won't be anywhere near what CCP wants it to be for years, a la EVE Online. But, at the same time, you cannot expect it to be fully polished and ready to play when it's in open beta. |
