Whats the point in them? We cant even decide which side we want to fight for. All what we do is join a match and get randomly throwed in. This is not the way to do it CCP. And thats why i refuse to play any merc storyline matches. Not having the freedom to choose what to do is a crippling aspect. You should add a option like "join for caldari navy or gallante navy". |

We know the inability to choose sides is a limitation. If you don't wish to do them for that reason, it's your prerogative and we certainly understand. We're putting them out there so people have something slightly different to do and because we'd rather do them than not do them at all.
However, being able to choose your side is coming and when they do, we'll likely be doing a lot more with these matches. |

Good to know ! That would be perfect. Hope it can be something different than just skirmish or ambush matches played 100eds of time over and over as well.
Like some 24 vs 24 battles that would last 2-3 hours or so and would rely on people getting out and into the game. 5000 clone limit, 20 MCC on each side coming in one by one. |

CCP Eterne, are you able to say how difficult it is to change the loot tables or is there one unified loot table across game modes? I was thinking that one day it would be interesting to have these event missions, and say "there is a likelihood of a handful of X prototype BPO dropping" and people would play to try and get one. |

If we could pick sides, and we found out that a bunch of protobears liked a particular side, everyone would just join that side.

Actually, not doing them at all is better. If you were reading the same post as I, he doesn't want the story to progress without being able to chose. You might as well just write the lore without our involvement.
"Hey kids! Participate in the story, youchoices don't matter cuz you dont have any."
Cmon ccp, this is a no brainer. What made you think story matches without options was a good idea? Did someone from BUNGIE put you up to this? |

This argument is a paradox, the only reward of a storymatch is to choose the outcome. People that would choose the side most likely to win don't care about the story, hence they will only do standard ambush/skirmish. |

I think you mean storyline match. You'll see them appear under the Mercenary tab in the battle finder when a storyline event is occurring in EVE. The two contracting corps will relate to the live event and the planet the battle is on likely has some sort of space battle or activity going on.
Sometimes the battles will be happening for several hours and end in an EVE based "evacuation".
The outcome of the battles influences the evolving lore. If you care about who wins you can either try hard or sabotage your team depending on which side you are assigned to. |

Well it's an inconvenience not being able to choose the team that I want to be on. But what bugs me, is that quite often the team names are not the same as what is announced, especially this last event. When I joined the matches from the Merc screen (all labelled correctly), and got into the game, when I checked to see which team I was on it still had the same team names from the Black Eagle event. So as a someone who is trying to dip their toe into the role playing side of thing, this is rather frustrating as I have no idea who to fight for.
Now the instant matches I've been playing today, I've noticed that the team names are what is listed from the latest event & they're taking place on Caldari prime?

I have to say, there really wasnt any point of throwing it in. Joined one side and won just to join the other side to win again! Who won at the end anyhow? Nobody knows it seems.. There wasnt even any special loot or so... No feedback on the outcome. No notification or information if your participation made any difference to the outcome as a merc. No thank you from the winning side in my mail, like thank you for saving us by winning this or this match.
For a story related event i felt it to be on all levels quiet dissapointing tbh. |

Ah righty, I read those yesterday but didn't realise they were being applied to the public instant matches. I was expecting another "event" to take place. Cool, rock on the role play! |

You can also make your own through corp contracts beyond the Storyline missions and Faction Warfare found in EvE. Set up a corp contract that allow for unbalanced teams, restriction to racial gear on both sides and come with a general story about why the fighting is happening. It is really not that hard to add your own content to a game like EvE/Dust, just takes effort.
What would also be fun is an internal fighting system like lets say a portion of the corporation decides on a hostile take over with guns, or just to be able to practice internally. |

Yes hostile takeovers and either leading it on to glory or looting the corp to fund that terrible dropship addiction. |
