Swarms are a light AV weapon, they really shouldn't be able damage that either equals, or excels a forge gun. Some of you will *****. But please hear me out.
Maybe we should nerf swarm launchers, and then add in a Heavy version: The missile pod?
It would be somewhat similar to what halo 3 had. Linky But for Dust, it would act like this.
It must be charged to fire, without charging, it can fire only one missile at a time, Has a very slow Dumb fire rate. Slower the the missile pod in Halo 3.
Half charge, it is able to fire two missile. At a full charge, it is able to fire 3 missiles.
The missile pod cannot lock onto Ground vehicles, only Air. this would help when other Air vehicles are added. Such as the fighter, or the gunship.
Missiles from the missile pod are MUCH faster then their swarm counterparts, and they have a slightly larger splash radius. So there is a possibility for it to be used as an anti infantry weapon, but it isn't an ideal weapon for that situation, like the forge gun.
Each missile deals about 450 direct damage, and 75 splash damage. Advanced, and proto versions do not add in more missiles, but rather they increase the damage of each missile.
There would be 3 versions.
standard Missile pod type: see above for its example.
accelerated missile pod type: Does not need to charge to fire. Missiles are weaker then the standard counter part. The clip would have 2 more missiles then usual.
Focused Missile pod type.: Fires 2 rockets per charge. Is 1.5X the strength of the standard counter part. Only fires 2 rockets per charge. Player cannot move while charging. Cannot fire uncharged rockets. |

I would like to see something like this. I would want one set of launchers per weight class. For aircraft it could be a one shot high velocity round that does kenetic and explosive damage and then a light SL like we have and one for heavy vehicles that do more damage-like packed AV-but are slower to lock and travel slower. |

why would this addition require nerfing the Swarm Launcher? It would be on Par with forge gun so that automatically makes it the better AV weapon. |

The forge gun does equivalent damage at basic level but has the potential to do much more damage than the Swarm at early levels. All swarm launchers do only 300 raw damage per missile. The low end launchers only fire four missiles for 1200 raw damage and, unless something has changed, the top SWARM maxes out at 6 missiles per launch for 1800 raw damage if all missiles hit their target. Forges start at 1200 raw damage as well, but can cap out, with the breach variant, at 2310 raw damage.
Of course you also don't seem to consider that low end gear won't be as effective against high end targets which can fit more resist and damage reduction gear. So yes, if I'm using a militia forge or militia SWARM fit against a mid to high end tank, I will expect it to be more of an annoyance than a threat. |
