When using an HMG? Of all the classes, they're the one with the lowest amount of shield and armor, and HMGs have the highest rate of fire. CCP, why the hell can't I take out a damn scout? |

Clarification: "they do slightly less damage to shields than armor"
so its like 90% to shields and 110% to armor or something silly like that. |

I can just barely notice a difference with my lower damage SMGs (similar % vs. shield/armor), so I'd imagine the difference for a Heavy's victim would be mere fractions of a second. |

Scouts are a smaller target. Less of your shots are hitting. Scouts move fast. They spend less time in your sights, meaning less of your shots are hitting. Scouts have fast shield regen and a short delay. When they take cover, their shields usually recover before you can reacquire the target. HMGs deal (slightly) reduced damage against shields. Until you're hitting armour, you're not at your best.
Combine all of the above and I'm sure you can see why a Scout is going to take more HMG fire than most. |

For anybody that plays EVE, aside from lasers, wouldn't a fast firing weapon theoretically be best to take down shields, apart from a weapon solely dedicated to that purpose (only similar thing on Dust are flux grenades)? |

The kinetic catalyzer is the red vial yea? Isn that a 7% bonus to only sprint speed at advanced? They are useful but not that useful.
Now the green vial... at proto is 100% too stam and recharge... you can sprint forever! If I hav to flee I star running wnd don't stop till I'm damn suee the heavy can't follow me. |

the scout's shield recharge starts at 4 seconds. you can use 2 high-end shield stabs to bring it down 50%. that means his shield is coming back after 2 seconds if you don't keep doing damage.
after you max out his shield, he still only has to wait 5 seconds for it to start coming back, as the stabs pull down the 10 second recharge. |

When you train your weapon on someone it says 'weapon efficiency' it will have one number when that target has shields and another when they don't. That is how you know the weapon's efficiency against shield/armor.
Also, when you have a fairly poor spread on your HMG that much fewer rounds are going to hit on a smaller hitbox on the scout. So especially if they are strafing, and it is very possible to strafe around the tracking speed of a HMG, they could be in the sweet spot of the HMG for a lot less time than an assault. Then factor in shield recharge rate and they could seem stronger.
Also, I've noticed shields recharging even seemingly while taking damage. Its like there is certain damage that applies and some that doesn't. I'm wondering if a lot of splash damage doesn't make shields delay...? |

You do realise that you have to spin up the HMG to make it accurate right? Because if you're just spraying short bursts in the general direction of a scout running perpendicular to you, you're not going to hit a goddamn thing. |

And with the game running everything server-side on dedicated servers, this means the problem is most likely at your end when the majority of players don't have the same problem on anything resembling a regular basis.

Hybrid weapons (Blasters and Railguns) can deal both energy and kinetic damage.
There are specific resistances that can be applied to shields or armour against certain types of damage within each class, but DUST doesn't seem to be going that far into EVE levels of detail. |
