I have been thinking of this for a while, but wouldn't it be nice to switch out your light weapon slot for a dual wield sidearm? or be able to trade out your heavy slot for a damage boosted light. I run a sniper/AR Repper with tactical AR, would like to trade that for an assault scrambler pistol and a twin wield breach SMG. and since im dual wielding, make it cost 2 weapons in the fitting AND in PG/CPU? Please don't tell me i'm the only one that thought of this |

you arent, someone came up with it better, but i still think DW should stay in CoD, or Halo, since i think the idea of some heavy running around with a pair of SMGs as bad as the damned HMG |

I suggested ways to make this work in Brink.
While I'm not sure it's a good idea, dual-wielding sidearms might not unbalance the game if done right.
"Paired" Sidearms take up a Light Weapon slot, meaning you can Dual Wield one set of Sidearms AND have an extra single Sidearm.
With Paired Sidearms, you don't get fine aim as an option, only hipfire.
L1 fires the left-hand weapon, and R1 fires the right-hand weapon.
The PG/CPU cost would be the same as two of the relevant Sidearm, but the total ammo count would be the same as you get from only a single weapon.
And because you don't have a hand free to steady the weapon with long bursts of fire, spread increases more dramatically than usual with sustained fire. |

The problem with duel wielding is that the weapon in question needs to be rebalanced, i.e rebalance everything, which leads to everyone using 2 because 1 is useless, or the second weapon needs to be heavily penalized to counter the instant 2x DPS.
You suggested: Heavy dropsuit 1 less module dual side arm or light weapon
It doesn't work because of the dropsuit. A heavy is slow, slow turning, slow moving, large hit box. Having increased DPS but less range or less accuracy would actually be a burden in this case not a boon because now EVERYONE can absolutely out gun, out dance, out move, out range you.
Dual wielding makes more sense on a class like a scout or an assault. The bonus in DPS despite the loss of accuracy or range is inconsequential because of your movement speed. You get a chance to fix your mistake before someone kills you. Many times a scout will miss me, then hit and kill before I can get bead on him. However, since a scout can [i]already kill me in 1-2 shots, what's the point of having two less accurate, range nerfed weapons? It doesn't make sense.

I wasn't proposing a new heavy variant or anything, i was just removing my idea of a heavy version of shotgun. but I for one, can use an assault SMG fairly well at a moderate range, but i end up just using an SMG for point blank range, it would be up to the developers what to penalize, but some people (like me) really like the pistol/smg, and it would be pretty beneficial in some cases to have a twin wield variation of a sidearm, not making it some sort of "attachment" a really good penalty though would be to make dual wield variants a Light weapon, instead of Sidearm, so that you have to sacrifice that AR for a DPS improved SMG/pistol. |
