What's up guys? I'm in a bit of a stalemate here. I can't decide if I want to focus on a heavy build or an assault. From what i can see the heavy really outclass the assaults. I mean the type 2 heavys shield HP almost beats out the assaults entire combined HP. Now I realise assaults are much faster and have more mod slots, but a heavy with some logibros seems like it would render the assault obsolete. My buddy has a fit he calls "heavy assault" which is a heavy outfitted with an AR, it's a freaking monster. Would love to hear some of your inputs! |

This is your answer. What makes a heavy special? Its incredibly high base armour. Why is this significant?
Because a logibro has more time to repair you.
If a shield-tanked assault is taken down into armour, it is usually a few quick seconds to end him. If an armour-tanked assault... oh wait. This species does not exist.
Whereas a heavy possesses that huge chunk of armour, and equipped with a heavy machine gun that forces anyone nearby to take cover, allows the logibro to have that interval between people reloading and taking cover to heal. If you're healing a heavy for 20HP/second, in 5 seconds, you've given him a bonus 100HP. In a minute of supporting him as he is damaged, you've given him 1200HP. Incredible.
If you're going to have logibros with you all day, heavies definitely outclass the assaults. But as people are beginning to realise, without a logistics supporting heavies, proto assaults will most definitely outclass proto heavies.

I play a logi so I like to see heavies on my team, I'll assist in the killing and stay at your back with the repper as needed, plus a heavy is easier to keep track of, but I think it depends on your playstyle, run and gun, choose assault. Like to take on 4 vs 1 with a chain gun? Heavy up. I've also seen some decent forge gunners in the Santa suit as well |

I see what you're saying. I don't see the advantage of a proto heavy anyway, 250,000 isk? screw that. And IMO HMGs seem very usless,I can pick off a heavy very easily with an AR at medium range. I'm interested in these upcoming racial suits as well. anyone have any details? |

I quote.
Using an Assault type II dropsuit is enough to kill a solo heavy, you just don't have to stand right in front of him: you can easily run away and use the advantage of the distance, because HMG will be less accurate and it won't deal you so much damage. Only advanced and proto heavies give me a lot of trouble if I'm alone, but if I'm with another assault mate we will be enough to kill him (and revive each other if one of us has fallen) |

HMGs are great, and the reason (that and forge) why you'd go heavy suit. If you're not using a HMG or forge, go Assault or Scout or Logi.

If you look at the DPS of a HMG, it's great. There's a reason why you see heavies using HMGs.
Also, speed is one of the most important things in this game. |

Appreciate all the advice. Think i'll go with the assault since i can't stand HMGs right now. Seem i'm always out of the effective range, plus the type B assault looks pretty awesome, saw a build with over 400 shields :D |

I agree with this but for one exception: a heavy sniper is actually pretty effective - especially if there are alot of other snipers out there. If I'm going to snipe I usually start out with a logi, however. That way I can prep my site with a droplink and nanohive. If another sniper does manage to get me, I can instantly drop back in with a heavy type II, two complex damage mods, and a kaalakiota. It gives me a bit of cushion to find the other sniper. I've yet to be OHKd in it. |

From what I have read on the forums at the moment because of damage mods not working properly at low levels I.e militia the heavy has the advantage but that reduces as you move up the tiers. By the time you reach proto the Assualt has a massive advantage over the heavy especially when they stack a bunch of damage mods.
In addition to this a proto heavy costs far more than the equivalent assault and takes more Skill Points to max out a heavy.
However, until damage mods are fixed it is not possible to determine with complete accuracy if the proto assault would out match a proto heavy in actual gameplay. Only that at the mo an Assualt is a better choice from a stat point of view.
At the end of the day it all depends on your play style and which you think you will have the most fun playing. |

Assault dude. heavies are bitches when you run with a squad equipped witha laser rifle.
Heavies are good for clearing areas but you get over confident. Dont rage when a canny assault trooper blows your legs off. We're fast, highly tenacious, relativly durable, and by a long shot are one of the more customiseable suits. |

Proto assault with complex shields and armor. plus a good regulator.. You got yourself a 1000+hp drop-suit that actually can maneuver out of a shitstorm. I'm focusing on getting that assault proficiency lvl 5 (weap lvl 5 also) to compensate for not using dmg modifiers. But if im feelin like bringing those damage mods out... Theres gonna be some fat suits lying on the ground i tell ya what right dere. |
