This game definitely should have a server browser. It sucks when I'm put into a 2v2 match and it never fills up. I've noticed in games with matchmaking-only, most matches are short on players and/or don't repopulate fast enough after people leave.
With a server browser, all the battles being fought at that moment will be visible. It would help fill matches and keep them populated. People would also be able to avoid maps they dislike [Line Harvest ] and could join a server with a good connection to them.
Detailed information about the server would be needed. Ping must be displayed in milliseconds[ms] instead of connection bars. The default sorting filter should sort rooms with the most players in them at the top, instead of sorting by name.
To keep rooms balanced, there would have to be some restrictions. Metal Gear Online warned lower-ranking players if they attempted to join a room with high-ranking players. In Warhawk, anybody above a certain rank would be unable to join the servers for the beginners. As far as I can tell, DUST doesn't and won't have the traditional level/rank system of most shooters, so restricting by those wouldn't be possible. Perhaps there could be restrictions based on how many skill points have been spent?
Another possibility is a "combat effectiveness" ranking system and restricting with that. It's basically how Metal Gear Online's ranking system worked.
If you performed well against higher-ranking players, your ranking would dramatically increase. If you perform well against people of similar ranking, it will still increase a bit. If lower-ranking players are giving you trouble, you will begin to go down in rank. Rank would also degrade if you picked on the players far below your ranking.
At the end of every match, you were "graded" on your performance with pluses and minuses.
++ = very good + = good - = bad -- = very bad
I'm not sure which parts of your performance affected your grading in MGO, but it would have to be a combination of many things in DUST. Keeping armor repaired, supplying teammates, following squad orders, headshots, hacks and captured objectives, etc. |
