It can be quite a pain to get into a squad at the moment if you're a random player as so many people don't seem to make them. Is it possible that we can get some kind of automatic squad system where the squad leader could boot players or make slots private for friends? |

The game used to automatically assign everyone into squads.
Now you have squad-limited Uplinks, and if you're in no squad, EVERY other player without a squad can use your Uplnks.
In a squad, you get a maximum of 4 players able to use the spawn point you deployed, and one of them (you) earns you no points for doing so. When you're operating without a squad, you can have anything up to 16 (in a squad-free team) players able to spawn on your Uplink. |

As I understand it, the lack of autosquads is a testing mechanism for the devs.
There were some serious matchmaking issues and weird pairings under the old system, so hopefully they are using this time to improve the system. |

Who needs automatically made squads in the lobby? if you want a squad, make 1 and invite your friends. That simple. And to avoid that people join "my squad" i lock it and nobody is allowed to join except the people that i invite. |

You personally can make your squad before a match and then join it, but for all the blues in the game it would be massively beneficial for them to be in squads.
More WP's are the most glaring advantage for the majority but the best advantage is that you might find people banding together more. I find that when I play in a squad I try and get to the teal coloured dot to help out and stick with them because you feel more of a bond in a small group. |

Another big issue that I -HATE- is that when you do make a squad; anyone who joins stays in it, even after the current match.
They get ready to go and finish restocking and they suddenly find that they have to wait on their squad leader to que up for a match - alternatively they just stay in the squad and it makes for some awkward get together between complete strangers. |

I was saying that the change has allowed for an improvement in the dynamic of using Drop Uplinks compared with how they used to work. I was also presenting it in as unbiased a manner as possible because while I like the Uplink changes, there are elements to the previous squad system that I liked and that I miss when I'm running solo instead of with a squad.
I honestly can't say I favour one method significantly over the other... |

Instead of auto squads... Somebody in my corp mentioned this while we were waiting for somebody who was LFS. It would be cool if players could 'mark' themselves as looking for a squad via some setting and squad leaders could 'mark' themselves as looking for additional players in a squad and it would automatically add the people who are LFS to squads. It would further be better if it would automatically look for corp mates who are LFS, then alliance mates and then just random individuals - so you'll always be playing with people in your corp or alliance if at all possible.
Even if there was a whole separate menu for this (under social or battle?), I think it would be a great way to do it. This way people who are LFS will automatically get paired to a squad that is looking for additional players and people who want to stay solo are still able to stay solo.
No more "LFS" messages in chat, either! |

No more "LFS" messages in chat, either! I agree that this would be good but I think it makes it too hard for people to just jump into the game and get squadded up ASAP. Apparently people already have trouble finding the mic options so this could just make it far too "complex" for people. We have to cater sometimes to the lowest common denominator unfortunately... |

I hope so. I liked the auto-squading mechanic. Blue dots are mindless zombies and though they do not listen very much. But being in a squad helps a little. Especially when the occasional squadmate has a mic too. |

We use to be automatically squaded not too long ago. They removed it because the devs are just testing it for the sake of getting some metrics. Besides, some people here actually like it for more than just the WP gains which is not that much to be honest when compared to a properly organized squad. Those of us who like to solo every now and then have been frustrated with being paired up with players who don't know how to organize let alone figure out how to use the orbital bombardment feature. Therefore, the no-auto-squad feature enables players to pair up with more skilled players on the fly so that can more effectively fight without being forced to relay on a newbie to give you a command. |

The only arguments I've heard in favour of the current system rely on getting WP from uplinks and having more people on team chat. If these are seriously the reasons this change was made, it's ridiculous and the wrong solution for these problems.
I hope that these people saying it's just CCP testing things temporarily are correct because it's stupid to expect people to work out how to form or join a squad when it's not at all obvious and they might know no one else playing. |

Since they got rid of auto-squads it seems that there has been even less teamwork, with people already in squads before the match (corp people) pretty much being the only ones, and the rest of the team left to their own devices.
At least with auto-squading, there was a chance that the squad you were placed into would work together/stick together, and it's not like you couldn't leave a squad if you were placed in one you didn't like.
Although I recall some forum posts saying that it might have also been a chat issue, no auto-sqauds means less chat channels, which presumably is an easier work load. |

I like this idea. I'm new and this would help me greatly to get more experience in the game. But I suppose there should be some criteria squad leaders could add. For example minimum SP or mic options. Like I said, I'm new and would hate to be a burden. Wouldn't want to be put in a squad where my presence is not welcome. |

Great for WP not good when you *really* need that uplink and it's been used up.
Depending on situation I sometimes create a solo squad mid match and lock it before deploying a uplink. |

It's not the WP from the uplinks, that's only a sideproduct. It's the ability to offer a random blue an option where to spawn.
The chances very correct thing to do, because havind auto-generated squad meant nothing if the people in squad wouldn't luckily happen to be team oriented ones. In the current system it's easier for them to find each other as they are in the same no-squad-squad. |

No, it doesn't really help the blues. The only advantage are the OBs - but as everyone, you included, knows that random blue sq leaders rarely realise they are sq leaders let alone use OBs.
Having all the randoms in one large 'no squad -squad' is a great help as you get to use everyone's uplinks. That really reduces random skirmish redlining as now more than 3 of teammates can use your breakaway link.
Which do you think benefits random teams more - having some juniors possibly get OB or let them use uplinks provided by at least one single user? |

That's a fair point, so how about we have automatic squadding as an option for ambush, but auto for skirmish. Skirmish should mostly be run by squads IMO, but let me know what you think. |

How about Drop Uplinks that work for the whole team? Same 25WP as they give now. Then there would be no advantage to not being in a squad. |

I'm still a little bemused by the uplinks thing because I am certain that I've been in squads before with no one putting down uplinks but I've been able to spawn on uplinks someone else must have put down. |

There are supposes to be advantages to being part of a squad. +35 WP for squad spawn and +25 for regular seems fine but what if you don't want randoms spawning on your uplink? I can think of a few tactics that involve stealth where you wouldn't want all the blues ever spawning on you and your super elite stealth scout squad, which is why I suggest squad and team variants so you could suit tactics to match your needs. |
