The player automatically is recruited into an NPC corp. Because the merc is new he needs to be put through the training course. It teaches basic controls and maneuvers. This training teaches super basic concepts. When training is done you are notified that the corp has accepted a contract to help some local colonists defeat some pirates/ drones/ bandits. You have to prove yourself.
Over the course of these missions there are various tasks involving attacking, defending, escorting various targets. Each mission teaches concepts and tactics. It would all be against NPCs. The player plays as different roles and accumulate a variety of weapons, dropsuits, and skills. It would all be connected by some sort of storyline The goal of this is to lessen the learning curve and hopefully give players a chance to figure out the game and learn what to do and not to do.
In addition i would love there to be a large variety of PvE storyline mini campaigns in the game eventually.
DISCLAIMER: I am aware this is probably way off but its a good idea and some sort of version of tutorial series should be implemented
Though i dont think they will ever add some kind of bogus story mode, i like the idea of a deeper on the ground training. I was discussing it (where ? i dont remember) last week.
The idea is to do something that pretty much every FPS does. BOOTCAMP. Instead of boring a player with walls of text when he starts the game, just send him on the ground and have him : run, jump, crouch, fire at moving fake targets, launch grenade, cook grenade, set an order, change weapon and equipment using rotative wheel, die, spawn on a drop uplink, raise a fake dead dude, resupply in a nanohive, hack an objective, resupply at a depot, call in a vehicle, destroy a fake HAV with another HAV and finish by making him call in an orbital strike.
Maybe make 3-4 on the ground tutorials focused on specific aspects to avoid one too big tutorial.
BUT, i'm pretty convinced that those situational Tutorials are the way to go.
MAG did it, but they failed by doing a bootcamp that covered what ? 10% of the game.... |
