Definitely the weapon. That passive damage bonus from the proficiency skill will help you in every situation you have an AR our, while the B Series is only useful when you're fronting the ISK to actually wear it.
I am heavily biased towards passive skills, so your preferred playstyle and current skills should be considered before making a decision, but I'd still favor whatever improves your character without increasing your overhead. |

+1 - Passive skills help no matter whether its a corp battle suit or your isk-farming PUB one.
For Assault guys, I highly recommend maxing out AR proficiency and Shield Control before opting for more expensive gear. |

Thank you for the quick responses. I have the A-Series and seem to do fine with it, but most say the B-Series if far better with the improved shield over armor. Think I will go with the Weapon and proficiency. Thanks again! |

The B is definitely an improvement over the A due to it being shield base (as the Type II is better than Type I in that way).
I honestly am going to just skip the A and go from using the Type II to the B because of that.
I have a Type II with 2 x complex shields with 1 x basic armor and am upping my shield control. That gives me well over 500 hp on a cheap suit for PUB matches.
Full shield control and full field mechanics (think that is the passive armor booster) should give close to 600 hp.

If you went for the suit already, it might be best to just stick with it. AR skills are easy to skill up, dropsuit takes a lot of work. Type-A is meh for most situations. If you want to shield tank, type-II > type-A. If you get the B, it'll be better than both ^.^
On the expensive gear part... don't use the good stuff in pub matches -.-
I've done/seen matches where a player on the opposing side uses proto gear because he used up all of their officer gear in pub matches. Don't be that guy.
Save isk/aur/items for corp battles. The Assault-Frontline will get you plenty of kills, even if you don't change it and don't put too many points in infantry skills (like weaponry lvl 1).
But the AR is nice to have too. Personally, I'd go for the suit because getting the AR is so much easier. The suit needs how much sp? x.x |
