Minmatar guns look like they're just as likely to explode and take your hand off as kill the enemy you point them at.

Pe-order pack? this is a free-to-play game, there is no pre-ordering, or buying the game. I'm just asking for names of artists. |

We've got a dev blog for visual FX in the pipeline (though not in the next couple of weeks) that will discuss our graphics design from our artists. |

I appreciate the reply, but I want to know about the concept artist, not the FX artist. Is that FX artist also the concept artist who designed weapons and dropsuits, escpecially the Amarr heavy dropsuit? If so, what's his/her real name. I want to know so I can Google and find more cool art that they did. If its someone else, please tell me the name of the concept artist so I can Googe them.
I just need the name of concept artist(s). |

I hate to be the one to let you in on this but, they will never let the artists put their name on their work because they already paid the artists and now own the artwork.
Even in the art book CCP released with 200 pages of awesome art, they have a page of the artists working there, but it doesn't tell you which one made which art, it's more like, this is the art team, this is the art. No one gets cerdit, it's like, some corperate BS. I should know I work in the industry as well doing environment art.
The artist don't get credit for their work at CCP publicly. You might have some luck if you go to fanfest and ask around about a piece, but asking here on the forums? Sorry you're out of luck. |

1_ You're completely missing the point of the thread.
2_ No. Assault rifles look different from laser rifles Which look different from sniper rifles Which look different from swarm launchers Which look different from forge guns Which look different from mass drivers Which look different from heavy machine guns Which look different than submachine guns Which look different from scrambler pistols.
Sure weapons within the same type look different, but the visual variety withing the wide variety of weapon types make up for it, and more weapon types (like flaylock pistol, plasma cannon, scrambler rifle, and gauss rifle) are coming. There are games like Halo and Killzone where you only have a handful of weapons, Dust offers more weapon types than many of these sorts of games, and on top of that gives you lots of variants and upgrades for each weapon type. |

Its not some corporate BS its how commerical ventures protect themselfs from wasting shittonnes of money. Sorry if you don't agree but its been like this way for awhile. CCP are actually cool developers because unlike many others they allow there artists to keep thier personal work. Somme companies state that all artwork done during employment belongs to the company, that would include painted models, everything.
The rerason why this is is because if you don't claim ownership of work producted and try som nebulious "well it yours but we get to use it" what happenes is the artist can withdraw rights of use. For example: if tis was the case suppose the Artists who designed all the drop suitys in the game fell out with his supervisor, because he called him a poopy pants at a night out. He decides to withdraw all his property from the game. CCP would essentially have to withdraw the game and get another guy to redesign all the suits. CCP would still be open to further lititgation as the artis could claim the new suits were derivatives of the old.
Art is a legal minefield and companys do it the 'harsh' way to protect themselves, thier products and thier customers. |

That's depressing... I'm going to bed now It's complicated and evolving. I think there's no argument that the design aesthetics of the races in New Eden are unique and belong to CCP. And also it maybe that no one person waas responsible for a design.
But then again, i'm pretty sure we all know that there are cases where a brilliant concept artis has worked miracles for companies and gotten absolutely no outside recognition for it.
I would love to see, someday, every product include the designer's names, and to be able to follow the work of designers i was interested in. Credit where credit is due, i say.
Right now the law is definiely shafting the creators of the art:
Case in point from the music industry:
http://conceptart.org/forums/lounge/60402-verve-copyright-laws-moral-rights.html
A good Ars Technica take on it all:
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2008/11/conceptual-art-and-ip/
Europe does better than North America, but I still feel the 'moral' rights of the artists are being stomped on by the jackbooted foot of commerce. Creative people desrve recognition for their work.

Bit off topic, but do you know if the issue anti-aliasing is ever going to get brought up? Right now there are so many jaggies it makes the game look really, really dated... and I know it can look better than that. At the same time, the client really struggles as it is and AA isn't exactly kind to frame rate... |

This is just about every art department in the game industry. Keeps legal lawsuits from haunting any studio after an artist leaves.
If you take a look though the gallery I put together I am quite sure there are about 1-3 pictures in there that are not ccp propterty however it was made by ccp artist on their free time.

because just about every ps4 game I own has bad AA going for it.
PS3 does it the hard way and doesnt cheat. Xbox360 cheats with fake and it looks better. |

You have PS4 games?!
But seriously, I have heard that some clever devs have done custom AA for a few PS3 games.

Surely it's not out of the question, considering this game has unlimited development time, basically. |

Amarr Heavy Dropsuit was a combination of 3 concept artists. Dropsuit concepts are usually handled by multiple concept artists because of the complexity of their design and multiple ideas coming from multiple directions! |

Interesting... Now is it different levels of artist or they're all there though all the steps from sketch-outs to final presentation before commitment? Or is it like football passing back and forth? |
