Greetings again fellow mercs and closeted pyromaniacs.
As some of you may know I run logistics, and for those of you who may not know, you do know now.
What I request is the person on the receiving end of some Logistical love is given a message across the top middle of his HUD.
The Cabalist has revived you with a Wiyrkomi Nanite Injector.
You are being repaired by The Cabalist's Six Kin Triage Repair Tool.
Your ammo has been restocked by The Cabalist's Ishukone Guaged Nanohive.
You have respawned on The Cabalist's Imperial Drop Uplink.
This way at the end of the day of the Logistics breed are recognized for our heroic efforts and can receive your loving fanmail, or hate mail for that incident involving the enemy HMG and a nanoinjector.
Alternately also add into the Kill Feed at the top right. "The Cabalist (Wiyrkomi Nanite Injector) Blueberry" so even more people know the glory of the Logistics. |

I'm also a hero medic, ressurrecting the unressurectable, repairing even when taking fire, dodging bullets...
To be honest I HATE when I'm repping someone and that one starts sprinting, I often think "you moron don't you see down there at the left the armor bar raising?-+?-+?-+?" but after a little exercise of empathy I realise that they simply don't because it's not enough, so i agree with you, ppl getting repaired should hav esome sort of warning.
BUT, I think that text on the screen "Youre being repaired bla bla bla" wouldn't make the thing right, people don't read while playing shooters.
I have a better idea:
-The Repair Tool throws some kind of golden rays loaded with nanites to your targets right? Then, why does not it appears on the screen of the target, on their HUD, some kind of golden rays around their screen? or even better, the same arrows that appear when taking damage, showing you from where the damage is coming, but in golden colour when being repaired? The cool and useful feature would be if these both appeared at the same time.
These would make it more intuitive to notice when one gets repped, more graphical, more visual, less invasive.
Another thing I think would be nice is, when you aim to your team mates, the bars of shield and armor appear, a cool feature would be if they would always show up for the guys who have armor damage when you have a Repair Tool fitted, so you could spot them faster.
Another thing that would also be nice is, when you have armor damage, the little -à above team mates heads which have a Repair Tool fitted should highlight, with some tiny but noticeable icon showing a team mate with Repair Tool, so you could approach them and let them repair you.
All of this with no text, no letters, I mean we already have messages: "Team is hacking A", "Enemy is hacking B", more letters would crowd the HUD, but there are lots of alternative and more visual and intuitive and less annoying and invasive ways of sowing these :) |

Jooki Chewaka You and I have the same idea, but it seems that you do it for yourself, instead of for the team... that's not the right attitude, on a battle, EvE, Dust, any multiplayer game, the individual ego should be left at the intro movie, the team always comes first, not your e-*****.
I mean, if youre a good logi, ppl will eventually notice, and you will see how they start following you, covering you, Heavies going ahead and clearing the way, [b wrote:teamplay will born[/b], your skill will create teamplay, a good player doesn't need thousands of messages flooding the HUD with their name to be noticed, its just the skill which does that job for you, my idea would benefit the team by benefitting the individuals, both logistics and no logistics, I mean, you shouldn't care about they knowing your name or them sending you a message "oh dood ure awesome", your only focus should be to win the match, to increase your self esteem you have your grandma you mom and gf, man...
Well now, I don't run logistics because I'm a glory hog, I let my pals with the large guns and my ammunition do that. And my self esteem and ego will remain as they are, unrepentantly over inflated. Like I would need the input of some old crone, my clone machine, or pleasure companion to make me a believe I'm the best damn merc. I mean heck, there are thousands of clones with my name on it, what more of an ego boost do I need?
What I was actually getting at, is the kill feed isn't for glory, it's there to tell your friends and foes who did what to who. That information could be used by your team to realize that hey instead of ceasing cardiac function so I can decant into my next clone, maybe I should wait and see if that totally awesome logistics is close enough to pick my sorry bullet ridden clone off the ground, patch the holes and feed me more ammo. Alternatively, it also lets your enemies know to target you with more hate plasma because with out your logistical self out there on the field it weakens the team.
Logistics are high value targets.
P.S.: please leave the e-peen in the holster shall we?
P.P.S.: Mercs do it for the cash and glory. Getting your name out there makes you a more valuable and desirable merc. More desire, more cash and glory. ectera ad infinitum. |

+1 More information is good information.
I especially agree with the visual indicators of the repair tool. I run assault with repair tool, kind of soldier medic, and I too am sick of people sprinting away. There's some heavy with no health and I'm like "come here buddy, I'ma patch you up". To which their response is: "Oh look, something make noise around corner".

Well if somebody starts running when i rep him i just try to follow :) You can hide behind heavy's back and rep him safely ;)
I do not need fame and glory or recognition for my logi job (WP/SP/ISK are enough for me). But some flashing of armor/shield while repping would make our presence and assistance more visible to the merc being repped. It would add some of that warm feeling of care inside despite all of us being in the middle of destruction... Virtually or not... My $0.02...
Trivia (err... PS): Last FPS game i played was Quake. Played it over dial-up PPP on Win 3.11 ;) Since then i'd got tired of killing. A kill is a kill. It really does not matter if it is in VL or RL. It is in your head and heart eitherway. I joined EVE and DUST because they both complement each other and i can see a glimpse of possibilities for both games to come. Despite the fact of both games being battle oriented, somebody decided to leave room for those bored of destruction and bound for creation ;) I like it despite HTFU video from CCP's Permaband ;)
IMHO both games are able to stand on their feet because of abundance of resources burried deep beneath scarcity facade. Ships/vehicles never run out of fuel. Nanorobots. Antigravity devices (but no free or zero point energy, still going nuclear, strange). New pilot/merc bodies are being cloned in herds, asteroid belts respawn overnight, planet resources regenerate, NPCs will buy any quantity of player generated goods and sell/give any quantity of skill books/ships/equipement you want ;) Infinite stocks of clones, starter dropsuits and militia gear. You CAN'T run out of money in New Eden. (Though you can run out of money in RL and be cut off of your Sleeper account in New Eden ;) ). The only limiting factor is real time. Some ppl claim to have it plenty, while others claim to have it none... |

Then if you don't have glory hunger, why the need of showing your name? and your shinny fitting?

Please, realise that people DON'T care about "The Cabalist" ressing them, they just care about being ressed.
As I already stated, lots of letters flooding the HUD don't improve the game experience, they only fog it.

Indeed.
The Cabalist wrote:P.S.: please leave the e-peen in the holster shall we?
You ask me to leave the e-*****, but you answered to that, not to my idea, its quite... ironic.

C'mon man, seeking glory in an Instant Battle is the most carebear thing I've heard so far in Dust 514, when Corps will be able to control districts, coordinating with their members up there at EvE for orbitals, and holding them for long, Dominating, Corps will be the ones getting the glory, and by extension its members, not the individuals per se. |

It was a LONG time ago, but I'll say what I always used to say in threads like this.
When being repaired, a directional indicator like the ones given for damage - but a different colour, maybe blue/green - would be awesome. |

Exactly, that would be the best way of making it intuitive and easy to notice.
The directional indicator would show where the incoming reps are coming from, this way ppl wouldn't go around a corner and make you lose lock.
But about the colour, you say blue or green because it remembers to HP, in shooters HP has always been green or blue, though I said gold because the Repair Tool throws golden rays... the colour its not big deal really xD |

I support this thread, I am tired of people running away when I am trying to heal them. Some kind of indication that they are being healed in the HUD. |
