Ok, so tonight my corp and I decided to do a corp battle against some other corp about our size. Was a real good match, real close, in the end they edged out and beat us. Was a lot of fun. But after the fact, one of the other corps members sent someone in our corp a mail and accused us of cheating by using a lag switch. Not used to sore winners, but no big deal, but it does beg the question for me, what is a lag switch?
Now I my be naive, but I've never heard of a lag switch before, mainly because I don't play online shotters I guess, but I looked it up and I guess it introduces lag into the game play to give someone an advantage. Wouldn't that just disconnect you from the game server instead?
But I guess what I really am asking is do people use these often or is there a way to prevent them from effecting your gameplay?
Edit: Fixed a mistake I made. |

Lagswitches don't work in a game where a massive central server holds and processes all the information. They only work when one of the players is the host which is never the case in Dust.
EDIT:
PS: Lagswitches in Dust can actually be detrimental to the player using it. |

Edit: Fixed a mistake I made. Its a switch that some people make which you can turn on/off at anytime. It makes it so everyone cant move which allows for the person to go and kill everyone on the opposite side. This can be activated for only a short time or else it will disconnect everyone.
But only the host of the game can do it. Which dust is hosted server side so it will only lag the person using it. |

I figured that, they were an idiot from what I heard of the message. But thanks for the info, the website I found didn't mention anything about needing to host the match yourself for it to work. |

From what I heard, a lagswitch works by temporarily delaying the uploading of data while still maintaining constant downloading of data through the router or modem. Apparently it's something you can put together in under $20 using parts from Radioshack and plugs into your console. |

Well thanks for the info, maybe I can get my corp mate to stop raging about how they called him/us cheaters with this new info. Told him to shrug it off, but I guess some people take there internet NUL cannons seriously. |

I love people who use lag switches, they don't move at all or move very very slowly like a set at a time. |

lag on either end fucks the shooter not so much the shootee. sooo if used well it could be an advantage but I really havent seen any evidence of it. just evidence of ****** internet connections. |
