I've quite often seen people talking about matches where people are using all proto gear.
Do proto suits look different and I'm just missing it? is it a slight differences that would be easy to miss, or quite obvious?
Also, while at it is there a visual way to confirm if it's standard or advanced suit.
Quite often I see people stating they were in matches with people with all proto fits. I'm wondering if this is just an exageration or if there is really a way to tell. I've only been able to manage identifying proto weapons* from the kill feed, but that tells me nothing about the suit nor the mods. Even then I still mostly see militia/standard gear.
Thanks

proto suits tend to be black with red eyes, also the tac net will identify the suit lvl at the bottom right hand side when you aim at a person. |

When you put your crosshairs over an enemy, it will show you some information such as how much shield / armor they have, the efficiency your attack will have (less if farther away, for example) and as some already said, what type of suit the enemy is wearing using a 3 letter abbreviation. From what I have seen, these are:
MLT - Militia STD - Standard ADV - Advanced PRO - Prototype
I'm not sure if there is any indication of an officer level suit, but I think very few people have those. |

prototype suits are pretty much solid black suits with reddish/orange eye slits. Its VERY noticable in game if you have a habbit of looking at the people your shooting at. Also if you aim at somebody their basic stats/characteristics will pop up on the lower left side of the screen. This will tell you either MLT (militia) STD (standard) ADV (advanced) or PRO (prototype).
That area will also tell you the enemies current shield/armor HP, and will tell you how efficiently your gone will do damage based off a variety of different factors.
Advanced level suits look like the standard suits except they have White/bluesh slits on their eyes.
The Raven assault type I suit is an AUR BPO (blue print original) that you can also buy. This is a standard level Black AND white suit and can be confused with the Prototype suit unless your able to see the white. |

Well, this has wrapped up nicely. And without any input needed from me. One last thing to point out: It's easy to confuse the Primordial Assault suit at a distance since it's coloration is so dark. Make sure you check that marker tag under the shields/armor HP indicator. If it's a proto suit, you will want to make sure you have an escape route just in case they know how to use it. |

For the record, ISK-variant prototype suits have red lights on them. Aur-variant prototype suits have orange lights on them. Other than that, like everyone above me says, aiming your gun at them tells you what they are wearing. In some cases even tell you what their efficiency is in percentages. |

The only way I've been able to identify is highlighting them in my reticle along with the black suit. |
