I have heard many people who would like to change the names of their characters. It can even be an AUR option (5000 or even 10000) and I still think people would do it. |

I'll have the same stance here as up in space - hell to the no - lol. Being a single universe we play in, your name is who you are, and the ability to change name like that would ruin the whole concept.

This has been asked for or suggested many times for EVE as well and I still think it would be a bad idea. The main reason I feel this way is because your name is who you are, sure you can just biomass your character and be done with it then you have a new one, but if people could just change there characters name whenever they wanted to whats to stop a corp thief from just changing his name and moving onto the next target. Or for that matter, an AWOXer.
If this wasn't new eden, then maybe, but with the way the universe works in both games I don't think this would be a good idea. |

Thats fine and I understand your concern. I would offer three options then.
a.) Allow a 'window' for people to change their names after starting the game. Say, within the first 30 days. That would cancel out your concerns as anyone who is sub 30 could easily be a spy on another account anyway so it wouldnt be like you would trust them with your corp funds anyway
b.) Allow only 1 name change for each account. This allows for an issue to be resolved (say you put your clan tags in your name when you signed up and then had a falling out)
c.) Dev/GM ruling - You have to put in a petition to change your name and then state why you are doing so. It is up to them whether they will allow it or not. |

I think we might be on to something here. |

I know these all sound reasonable, but, if you are less than 30 days old and your name bothers you that much, just biomass them. Although, a 'are you sure' box for the name would not be a bad idea during creation, maybe something saying this can not be changed later.
I'm not sure why someone would put the tags of another group on there name anyways, so thats kind of there fault in the first place for doing that.
The only times I've ever seen someones name changed by CCP is because of someone else petitioning that name because it is offensive for some reason, then the name is just changed to "Caldari Citizen 022164651456", something like that. |

Valid points but I am trying to look at it from all angles.
- A good amount of new people may be turned off by the idea of having to restart a new character to change their name. Especially if they have made investments into the one they have now.
- I have seen many people who have tags in their names. Anything can happen where you have a falling out with your group. After that, you basically become 'that person' who tattooed their SO's name on their arm and then broke up.
TBH, there are many valid reasons why someone would want to have their name changed. I think it can be allowed while still addressing some of the concerns that people had in the previous posts. Heck, we can do it legally IRL.
