This is what I want and new players would likely also prefer this since they won't be challenged by OP players with better equipment. This could be a potential solution to balancing. This may already be an idea that CCP is using for Hi Sec battles which I'd hope. Hopefully newbs won't end up going 0/10 or worse while advanced and proto players have 20/2 or better capitalizing on much worse equiped players. |

While I appreciate what you are trying to accomplish, I suspect a militia only match wouldn't solve any of the OPness issues you seem concerned with.
Skills and exploiting the various technicalities and limitations of the militia gear would then dominate. For instance, someone with lvl 5 in assault rifle is still going to be significantly better with a militia weapon than newbies. Also, raw knowledge of how to play the game will still dominate.
In short, I feel as though most dominations in the game don't currently come from better gear, or better gear alone. I believe teamwork is the most important factor, then player knowledge and familiarity with the Dust maps and concepts, then avatar skills, then equipment in terms of winning vs losing.

Teamwork is important but mixing in gear that allows for higher damage, shielding, or armor makes a huge difference. A militia only mode would be seperate from what we have now. I guarantee that even with teamwork from both teams, the more advanced equipment has the much greater chance to win due to higher dmg or defense. It's about giving the new players a place to play in competitive matches, not redline fests. Sure SP passive skills will help but all the extra equipment (weapons, shielding, armor, dmg mods, etc.) gives a huge advantage on top of that. When everyone has equal lvl gear, the game becomes more about skill than gear. |

Dude. The noobs will still get raped stil get raped, because those who have been playing will already have their passive skills level'd like Weaponry, and Proficiency, Engineering, Electronics etc. They would actually be worse off imo. |

I'm not sure how they'd actually be worse off by restricting high level gear, but I agree with you that I don't think it would change much. At the very least they wouldn't have to worry about a tricked out Sagaris rampaging around the map... |

HAV's aside, Advanced, and Proto suits offer a lot compared to militia suits.
With the higher CPU, PG extra slots for high and Low modules, they have the ability for much greater, shielding, armor, weapon dmg, etc....
These suits can have 2, 3, or 4 times the amount of defense, shield regeneration, damage mods.
The proto scout suit has the capability alone to have the defense of a militia assault but with a shield regen 3-4 times as fast.
The proto assault types have the potential for over 2 times or more of the total defense of an all militia suit loadout.
A proto assault suit can have higher total def than a militia heavy suit.
SP passive boosts are nowhere near what equipment offers.
An assault suit with full field mechanics and shield control has a total def of 480 while the assault suit with no field mechanics or shield control is 384.
That's only a total of 25% difference in total defense which will make a difference but not as overwhelmingly as much as the advanced or proto equipment will give.
Those that enjoy using their proto gear will not like a place for militia gear only since militia wearers are much easier to kill but those that want a more balanced match will; newbs especially. |
