In this post I made earlier, I got me wondering. What do you guys think of the Annual Attribute Reallocation (best known as a 'Neural Remap') system of Eve Online? Do you believe that such a system makes a good compromise that favors both sides of the SP-reallocation debate?
But before you decide on the matter, I feel it's best to inform or remind you of a little history from Eve Online.
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Skills_Guide#Historical_note:_Learning_skills
http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=824
In a nutshell, every character you control has the following attributes in Eve:
Willpower Perception Intelligence Memory Charisma
Every skill book in Eve is effected by one or two of these attributes. Let's say for example that Willpower and Perception effects your gunnery and missile skills as well as your ship skills. Intelligence and Memory effecting your science and upgrading skills, while Charisma affects your trading, corporate management, and social skills.
At the same time in Eve, you have a base amount of points given to you at the start of your character's existence not including the points you gain from fitting implants. Every year, you are given a chance to do a Neural Remap of your attributes which lets you decide which skills you train go faster. The tradeoff is that you also have to decide which skills will be slower to train.
This was something that was brought up extensively by the Council of Stellar Management to CCP a few years ago as a compromise of sorts.
But do you, as a community, believe or don't believe that such a system would be a good compromise for Dust's SP-reallocation/respeccing debate? I believe it's a good compromise, but I still want your opinion. Don't worry, I'm not going to flame you for not liking the idea. I respect people's opinions. |

I just realized this should have been posted on the Feedback section of the forums. GMs are more than welcomed to move this thread. |

I fail to see how attributes like Eve could function in DUST.
In Eve we train skills over time, where in DUST we earn points to spend ... Eve skills can be trained faster by attributes, but in DUST you'd have to recalculate sp required for each level depending on attributes of the character or something. It would be messy I think. |

discount on skill based on relevant attributes. Rather then earning sp faster when training the skill, a discount in sp needed when upgrading it based on same attributes.
I don't think it's needed for dust, would add more eve flavor. Maybe in future expansion few years off, plenty of core things(player market for example) need work in game still before adding things that are nice but not real important.
It wouldn't help with respec debate. It would not give the pro-respect people what they want or address the concerns of those opposed. |

I read a post that the skillpoints maybe reset and all the points u currently have set as unallocated allowing you to adjust them once game goes retail as the beta is being used as a test. i would quite like that idea as i've spent 13k opening up lv1 on all weapon types to test them and being able to setup my char 'properly' just focusing on the ones i want when in retail would be great. its a long shot but would be ideal for those of us who have made skillpoint allocation mistakes |
