It seems like in the future all maps could have north as the top on all overhead maps.
As it is now north is not consistent with the overhead map as top being north.
A bug or on purpose? |

It's a feature! Magnetic north is specific to planet, and the different magnetic fields we find ourselves in screws with our suit software. It's just CCP being incredibly deep and thoughtful with their universe and setting.

Ya has been annoying for a while now, I have seen north is different on the same map so just put the symbol on the overhead corresponding to the battlefield. |

Well, the 'same map' isn't really the same district.
Could be they've reserved the option to reorient the map template according to the district you're fighting in. |

My thought is it sure would help with communications if when you looked at the overhead map it was always north to the top.
This until they actually implement a grid system for calling out locations alphabet up the left numbers across. With a location on the radar of what grid you are in. I'm in "d-4 anyone got ammo" would be so nice.
Then every location can be pinpointed easier.

I never payed attention in a match which way is actually north. I just assume that the top of the map is north because all the maps I've seen before always have north as the top; what I call out is completely based on that assumption. So sorry to anyone I may have confused by doing so. |

You are not the only one. I was listening into team chat and seems that most players operate on that assumption, however the other 20 % of the time people are using the correct north, causing major confusion in pub matches. |

In halo they just used Threshold (the gas giant halo orbited) as north. |

Honestly, when I'm playing with people I trust, we usually just refer to hack points on a map, even in Ambush.
The maps are similar enough that if you say, "I'm near A, need nanohive", even if there's no such thing as A, we know what's meant.

Yes please this. Id love to see the cardinal points rotate around my HUD as I move. Make it nice and sinple to orient yourself and call out intel. I hate hearing "look over there!". Makes me crazy. |

Yes, this needs to happen.
As far as the map overlay ago. I could be wrong, but I think all maps do have North to the top, but the compass is off when you are on the drop screen.
In other words, once you're in game, on the ground, North corresponds to the top of the map, even though the compass is drawn incorrectly on the actual map.
Again, I might be wrong. |
