ok this may sound dumb
especially because i am not new to the game by any means (since closed beta)
what are merc battles?
i have played in a lot of them and i still have no idea what they are for
I am guessing ccp is showing them at some game show or something?
do they record good matches and show them?
or do they let people play against us at the game show?
never really cared to look into it much before

Ok ok thought that was pretty funny, glad you walked into it!
They are usually game shows and they usually effect the story in some way.
Not sure if they tape them and show them anywhere though it would be cool to see a few.

I thought the game shows were, as zeek assumed, simply conventions where people tested out DUST. They get lots of SP and ISK and go wild against each other and us. I imagine it'd be all in one warehouse or function room lined with PS3s, something like that.
The Uprising mercenary battles are, on the other hand, limited to us players, who determine the outcome of a battle which in turn determines the flow of the story, or uprising.
