So the next major update is going to be when FanFest is here. so Lets look at FanFest for one quick second.
How many Dust 514 players are going to FanFest? How many EVE players are going to FanFest ?
Looking at this are CCP pleasing the wrong crowd?

They haven't announced when they are going to release the next major update. You're assuming that's when it'll be released. But, I'm afraid you may be correct. When you have an expensive annual event wouldn't you want to save the most exciting information for it?
That said, they don't have a separate event for the DUST crowd but there is cross-over between the games. Next time it should be called New Eden Fanfest.

I think people who buy the HD stream of Fanfest get an in-game gift like the attendees. It would be a nice gesture to the other half of their community if you could get a DUST item as well. Angel Minmatar LAV BPO perhaps? |

I understand your point here, BUT there are guys who play both games, and on the other hand we really have to make Dust interesting for Eve players, otherwise dust will just be another Shooter. So I think it will be the right move from CCP to publish or presentate the next major changes on the EVE Fanfest, becuause with this you get the attention of all this Eve players on Dust.
I think this connection between 2 completely different games is one of the biggest advantages for Dust so why should CCP NOT try to please also the other half of the game? And as far as we are now there is no real connection between Dust and Eve unless both games are existing on the same server. There is no doubt that Dust has to evolve and get some major fixes but CCP has to slowly get the connection between this games. |

I'm going to fanfest as well as many other Dusters. I do like the idea of attendees getting a special Dust party favor though. |

Of course they are. Do you notice how many people are crying for tanks and heavies to be nerfed to irrelevancy? Those people always win, because why shouldn't games be one-dimensional? |

If you took 500,000 non-EVE DUST players and invited them to an event in Iceland to celebrate a game that has been in open beta for only a couple of months...how many do you think many would show up? (I realize that this reply is as thin as your original argument)
EVE fanfest is about New Eden. DUST is now a piece of that and many hope the link will grow. Feel free to check out last years presentations.
You, like so many others, have created a false dichotomy in your depiction of the New Eden player base. Some of us play both. I would argue that the hybrid EVE/DUST players are in a much better position to advocate for DUST if only because of their understanding of what is already in place. At this point it is fairly easy for an EVE player to grasp the totality of DUST...the reverse is not true (Troll repellent: this is not an elitist statement about the relative intelligence of either group).
Many of this games biggest advocates are in EVE -Players that want DUST to succeed and have critical insight and opinion on how to integrate the two pieces. Yes, the FPS mechanics need to be in place and the purist shooter's input is critical; that is not going to be the hard part (or rather it shouldn't be -despite some of our opinions on CCP's handling of this aspect to date) .
Fanfest is New Eden's biggest PR event and this year is a celebration of their 10th anniversary. Do you sincerely feel that DUST announcements and/or content release (assuming this is true -and I do suspect you are correct) should not be tied to the Fanfest event? |
