So yeah its not a tough decison to make when you are on the recieving end of a tank attack like I have been so many times before. indeed it is goddamn annoying to be powerless until some of your AV buddies come and run that sucker off.
BUT..... and there is a big but right here guys.
Tanks are great!
Yup Tank Support, Tank Driving, Tank Gunning, Anti Tanking etc all of which give you a really great feeling on the inside. be it when you waste that tank that was suppressing your clones back at C, or rolling up in one and ending a 5 min deadlock between teams, or just laying waste to other tanks who were too exposed for their own good.
Now Im not justifying or condemning those who drop tanks in an Ambush match....seeing as I did it myself not five minutes ago.... but I'll tell ya one thing. There never was an OP tank.
Yup I just cant see what the complaints are all about. I know Tanks are extremely potent when it comes to mowing down infantry or taking down those pesky, sneaky LAV's, and at high teirs have thousands of shields and a very hard to kill but.....
Thats how its supposed to be.
I just hopped into LAV driving today after a successful skirmish where I was able to call on a corpmate to provide tank support for me and figured it would be good to see how I can better help my corp through armoured back up.
So what I found today is that tanks, especially Militia ones are super flimsy. Yup they go down to concentrated AV fire, fortunately for me my gunners saw off those pesky AV troopers and the other team never really caught on to the fact that I was a prime newberry target to destroy.
Also If you get desperate crashing LAV's into a tank is a surefire way to take it down if you dont mind the hit to KDR.
Turret turning speed is super slow....too slow. So a successful Demolitons Fella can get right up in there if a tank is holding its ground somewhere. Up close its supper hard to hit enemies even with gunners. So Unless I have you zeroed you have the opportunity to get away before I can hit you.
Fortunately I survived the match with Tank intact. There were some close shaves and if the team had spent more time targeting me that avoiding me I would have been down for the count.
Now playing as a Tanker I think I understand them better. In fielding a +400,000 ISK vehicle Tank Drivers have to use all they can get to best a foe and are under a lot of pressure not to **** up and ruin 3 battles worth of out fitting.
Also dont hate this post. Im not pro Tank, Im not Anti Tank (if you'll pardon the joke) but I dont get this tank hate. Ill be carrying more AV grenades in future so untill next time have fun punching holes in the side of my expensive hobby. |
