So, after reading about the Raider dropsuit I became ecstatic. I thought to myself: "Sweet, it'll be like the Dragonfly with a different color pallete. I'm game for that."
Then I scour the PSN Store looking for the pack, couldn't find it - went in game and saw this lovable little thing in the in-game market under Militia Gear.
Then realized the rather irritating truth. It's a vastly cheaper 'Neo' Scout Type-I. Same color scheme and everything.Same exact fittings and the like.
Hold up.....
I remember seeing this on the Eve Online database with all of the other named variants of dropsuits, like the Atlas and Titan Heavy dropsuits... That can't be right...
So I look up the description and it says: "The Raider fit is designed for clandestine work deep in enemy territory. Raiders pave the way for breach maneuvers by placing drop uplinks in high-value areas."
Well, how the hell does it do that when it literally has -no visible benefit- over the Standard variant? I mean, in reality it really is just a Standard dropsuit that's really cheap and colored the same as the 'Neo', effectively making the 'Neo' rather.. useless.
So with that in mind I'm honestly terrified that the upcoming dropsuits (like the Atlas/Titan Heavy or the Shock/Spectre Assault Dropsuit) are literally just 'themes' for the packs with absolutely no change in their stats/fitting layouts. Just a different description and the colors reversed from their typical pallete. |

Yes, specialize, specialize, and specialize. I too want my dropsuits and fit configurations to have some identity. There are already a good number of suits available and the most dynamic thing they could apply to all of them so far is a very uninspiring difference in armor/shield values and # of fittings.
Come on, we need suits that work specifically with different modules, cloaking, weapon types, you name it.
-Scout suits that use an infantry black ops cloak device -Weapon stabilization for very certain weapon suit combos -Mobility and melee scout suits for bringing a nova knife to a gun fight for all of the ninjas out there -Heavy's already have their own special group and forge guns so I'll leave further ideas up to others. -Pilot interfacing suits to give bonuses to the vehicle they plug into
There have got to be more good immersive, creative, and reasonable ideas than what we currently have. Overall I'm very satified with this game but the dropsuit imagination factory needs to get to work. Dropsuits and weapons are to DUST as ships are to EVE. |

That's disappointing. I guess the "scout with built in damage mods" or the "logi with hacking bonuses" are just going to be more pre-fit militia suits. This is all well and good for newbros, but pretty useless for vets. (No wonder they slow the community's SP progression with caps; they're still working on all the low end gear and NPE.)
Back to waiting for racial variants, I guess. |

It's incredibly disappointing. I was looking forward to using a Atlas heavy as a very slow but powerful squad leader; sacrificing the heavy weapon for an equipment slot or something. |

Yeah, so checking up with the Eve Online market I found the Shock Assault, Hunter Scout and Mauler Heavy under the Militia Dropsuits tab.
I can safely say that they are probably like the Raider and just pre-fit starter suits...

Pretty weak. It would have been neat to see dropsuits with different slot/PG/CPU configurations with role bonuses like Eve ships.
The "Raider" could have been a Scout suit with an extra Eq slot with a drop uplink permanently affixed into it and more armor/shields or something but less high slots...that sort of thing.
Different. Niche.
Bummer...

Another mind bogglingly bad design choice from a team woefully out of touch with what the players want/are willing to pay for. I'm guessing part of the difficulty with developing this product was raising the team in total isolation so that they could develop a game that repeats all the worst mistakes from the inception of online gaming. |

How it should have been done -
X level suits X level fittings Visual differentiation Lowered skill requirement Locked fit
(X means room for fits at all tier levels)
It's actually a good idea, and less than a penny a suit isn't outrageous either.
I am equally disappointed they started with the lowest tier stuff instead of the items people would likely use. |

I say we should make it known what we want, and be as vocal as possible about it.

Except CCP feeds on stuff like that. Why would we reward them for this?
As beta testers our only power is feedback. We've tried telling them time after time what we expect to see in the new dropsuits.
If CCP is going to ignore us to the point that they deliver this travesty of disappointing and uncreative thought then I don't see the point of raising hell. I'm not going to claim this is a game ending misstep, but it is definitely another case of the developer blatantly ignoring it's own testers.
This is another avoidable step down the path to mediocrity. |

I always thought they were going to be sub classes of the main dropsuits each with there own tier lvl and perks that increased as the suits got higher. Like u skill into the main dropsuit then u can choose a sub suit u want to skill into but if this is how it is with them all being militia i don't like it. |

That's what we all thought because of the thing in the description on Dropsuit Command: "lvl 5 unlocks dropsuit specialization" but apparently that was just fancy wording for the Vk.0 and Vk.1 suits.
I'm honestly really discouraged with the way this has turned out as I was -ECSTATIC- about having varying dropsuit capabilities from the ones we currently have. A heavy that can't use heavy weapons but has an equipment slot would make an -AMAZING- squad leader; one that I feel could have rivaled the Crusader suit. |
