I am so sick of seeing this that it is ridiculous. And this isn't another GEKs are OP they need to be nerfed thread. This is a we need more variety and other variants of the AR obviously need tweeking thread. Maybe its just that the newberries haven't considered trying out the other variants of AR out there much less a non AR weapon, but all I see people using these days is the GEK, some sort of sniper rifle, or some form of HMG. Very rarely does one encounter lasers or more preferred arm, the mass driver. Where are the gauss rifle, scrambler rifle, and other weapons you first showed us pictures of over 2 months ago CCP!? Put them in already and let us take 'em for a spin or two around the block, maybe I can get killed by something different |

Honestly I think this has less to do with GEK being overpowered and more to do with beginner training tracks. Historically AR has been the track to go every time they wipe because at first it was almost all you had but it was more OP in the previous beta versions.
I think this trend will resolve its self as the game is out for longer and ppl are able to accrue enough SP to finance other weapons and specialties. Going AR is just a good way to get your foot in the door to other things. |

Actually took a mass driver out for a test drive for the first time last night...it was fun, but will definately take some more practice.
My point is, I'm planning to get at least level one in each weapon for the purpose of testing out other weapons as I feel my focus has been too narrow just as you've pointed out. I would agree that play styles are pretty polorized at the moment mostly because most people feel they have to specialize to be effective...Personally, I like to be flexible so that I can respond to a situation and so that I don't get board with a particular style or frustrated with a specific strategy.
That being said...those GEKs do seem to be pretty effective... |

I use three wapons in this order MD, Shotgun and laser rifle. I have two classes with the exile because they are free crap fits that I use to pilot vehicles in because I refuse to die just because my tank is about to.
So if you really want to die by other weapons find me in a game ill gladly nomnom your +50s
The gek snd all assault rifles are extremely effective mqybe a tad much so but as I have no access to the massive amount of data ccp surely has on the kills and usage amounts on the weapons can't say for sure.
Biggest reason I think pepple use them is because damage mods are broken and ars are easier to stack them on when compwred to everything else.

A couple reasons for this. 1. ARs are the most commonly used weapon in EVERY FPS game. Dust will be no different. 2. The GEK is an upgrade over standard/militia level, and is fairly easy to get because to the relatively low SP investment necessary. 3. The other AR variants (burst/breach/tac) were incorrectly and/or unnecessarily nerfed in prior builds. Making the "regular" ARs (standard/GEK38/Duvolle) the ONLY AR worth using. I use the GLU tactical. It has 15 rounds per clip so your shots need to count. Ive had to invest SP elsewhere, but once i get enough im going to use the devolle tact. |
