I tried to count the other day, how many different corps i could see in one day. I stop at 100 after 10 battles.....
Any one knows how many corps are out there ? 5,000 ?
Trying to choose a corp is like playing Russian roulette ... ( shoot and hope for the best ) |

Since I was recruited fairly early in my career (within a week or two after starting the game), I wouldn't know. Finding a corp is really just playing the game and getting to know the players you go up against/with the most. Send freindly (or sometimes grief/jest) messages of good games, bad games or whatever. And if you go up against the same person, or people, day in and out and you have a rapport going, then there you go.
I have been playing solo for while now, I could easily play with corp members all night every night due to the constant lfs and rf1 or rf2 requests, but I have a fondness for solo play due to the freedom it gives me. During my solo play I come across many frequently played against/with players and corps, and if i was corp-less, these are the players/corps I would be contacting for recruitment.
Just play the game, keep and eye out for who you play with/against frequently and how they do etc, and judge accordingly. |

anything less then say 75 to 100 players isn't a real corp.
most of these are fly by night, star belly sneetches:
they are just wearing the clan tags because they can. after probably their first loss, the clan will fold. seen it a million times.
the bigger clans are the ones to watch. they have huge numbers which means that even their core base of players is solid. outta 300 to 500 players, you can expect 50 monsters, minimum.
that right there shuts down most clans right at the gate.
then you got some clans who are really just groups of casuals playing together. the only difference is the clan tag. the gameplay, their lack of teamwork and their inability to work together is no different then if they weren't wearing clan tags. but since they are, the other casuals think "ohhhhh a clan".
once they let the clans join rooms in groups of 16, they will finally be able to train/practice.
and oh my god the unholy a$$ kickings that will be handed down in those rooms, boy.
the forums will be aflame with the burning tamponics of millions of casuals screaming for protection.

Ouchies! Right in my aspirations!
This guy here has a point though. It's not Russian Roulette if you go to the bigger corps oh idk say Zion TCD who has craploads of people and funds. They're more stable than the smaller corps although they have their own issues...lol. |

I laughed so hard...it's not like the forum is full of stories of single corp squads dominating matches *chuckles*
...so a whole team shouldn't be a problem, right? Right!?!
But on a serious note...I am looking forward to being able to set up training sessions... |

all corps are gonna have morale issues:
it's just part of what happens when you put groups of people into groups of people.
not everyone is going to get along. how it's handled is a whole other thread.
but the small clans, the guys in the local chat, pimping the "hey, join my clan!! we are the intergalactic wonderpuppies and we number 6 but we have big plans!"... yeah, those guys are dead already, they just don't know it yet.
i think the big clans are going to try and do the handpicking the best plan, but in the end, it'll just be an excercise in bulk:
accept 200 applications without question and at least 20 of them will actually be real players.
the rest will come and go within a week. it's gonna suck for the corp leaders, constantly having to do spring cleaning on the roster.
and we haven't even gotten into the hard stuff yet, the stuff where folks get called out for messing up. right now it's all gravey. wait till some of these clans hit null and lose out on 9mill or more. i guarentee those morale issues will come up because for some reason, most folks these days have been raised with such soft skin that if you ever point out anythiing they do wrong, even if they DID do it wrong, they will turn on you for hurting their feeelings.
the funniest clan thing i saw recently was an old BF clan that was trying to get itself back together. one of them had the guts to try and post a "no criticism" clause in the clan rules. as in, if he messes up, he doesn't wanna hear about it. unsurprisingly, the clan went nowhere.
if there is no way to critique the gameplay internally, all it's gonna lead to is drama when things finally come out.
most folks aren't ready for that.

actually that's pretty much dead nuts on.
unless again you're talking about a "clan" of casuals that could number in the hundreds but if all they have are solo hotshot bois, then they really aren't a clan. there are a whole lotta them out there.

>.> Spring cleaning is...it's a chore. >_> Especially when you get those players who come to you and then leave without notice. It's just blech.
The only thing that distinguish the corps you're talking about from actual developing ones is the way that they carry themselves...which is actually what you just said I believe.
I can't really stand the: "JOIN XXX TODAY. WE GIVE SIGNING BONUSES/FREE STUFF FOR NEW PLAYERS." in the local.
It's the most desperate of all methods imo. No way am I giving out my ISK or the corp ISK to new players. *Shrugs* once they have proven their worth and invested into the corp they can become actual investments for the corp and make things balanced.

How is a big corp that much different that an NPC corp? You have hundreds of people that you barely know. It's almost liking teaming up with randoms. You probably end up with a core group that should be the real corp and I'm guessing that it's less than 20. |

I look at the names of the players, most of the corps with huge numbers have a lot of filling and no cake.
